II""'"
430

Superintendent of Streets, had reported to him there were some limbs on trees so low
it was almost impossible to get next to the curb with the Street Sweeper and he
had authorized Mr. LeVan to cut all limbs necessary to provide for the needed EX2~X
clearance.

ElI

I

, ~

21"
"""~

'~"...."

~r.

Acting Chairman of the Sewer Committee, Louis Koppe, reported that a large
number Of people using the city sewer but living mutside the city limits had failed,
as yet, to pay the annual charge for 1941, and requested the council to take some
action. After s short discussion Councilman Bond made a motion, seconded by
Counci~en Koppe and Barette, to instruct the City Engineer to either collect ~his
service charge or shut off the service, and it was so ordered.

The Sewer COIDnlittee reported that Seals Auto Court on West '6th Street
would like to have the city make a proposition for the use of the city sewer for
the courts, whether it $5.00 per unit or $5.00 for all the courts. The matter
was referred back to the Sewer Committee to determine what would be a fair price
29 and asked them to report back at the next council meeting.

~, .
\.,..v

j:.t..-..,

c;

....
28

I

The Sewer Committee further reported that the Plywood Company was violatng
the terms of the sewer contract by using the sewer to dispose of glue and the same
would cause complete stoppage in due course of time. .It was reported that the
Plywood Company agreed, in the contract, that the sewer was for sanitary purposes
only and no commercial use would be made of the sewer. Councilman Bond made a
motion, seconded by Councilman Barette, to instruct the City Attorney to communicate
with the company requesting them to comply with the terms of the contract or the
service would be discontinued and it was so ordered.

\..
30

Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, stated that Mr. A. L.
Findlay requested the return of his $5.00 for his liquor investigation fee which
he had paid in December. The license was denied him and the investigation was
never made. Councilman Bond recommended that the refund be granted and paid out
of the Emergency Fund, and it was so ordered.

31'

Councilman Bond presented a communication from the City of Waldport
requesting whether or not the city would have a 500-gallon pumper for sale. The
32' matter was held for future consideration.

Councilman Farrington reported that Ramey Rugh was offering a deed to the
city for $50 for part of Lots 5 and 6, and all of Lots 9, 10, 11, and 12, Block 19,
College Hill Park, and it was the reco~~endation of the committee that the offer
be approved 'providing he obtained the necessary releases from other interested
parties and it was so ordered.

I

33'

Reporting on the request of Sol Rosenberg, Councilman Bond reported that
a post, with a reflector~, had -been erected at 14th and Charnel ton to show the
34' jog in the street.

Communication was presented signed by Harriet W. The matter was
referred to the Printing and Parks Committee.

"-
35

Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals presenting the request
ot Mrs. Edith Curfman asking for a permit to 'remodel the building at 1542i West
11th Avenue into apartments. This building is located on Lot 4, Block 6, Cham.bers
Addition; is a two story building and the upper story has been used for living
quarters. Mrs. Curfman states that she is a. widow with three children and has no
income. The Board recommends that this request be granted, and upon motion made
and seconded the recommendation was unanimously approved.

36'

37"

Request was received from Arthur Priaulx asking for permission to change
the vent pipe from his gas furnace in the basement of his printing plant at 67
East Broadway. At present he has a flat duct four inches by eighteen inches snug
against the building on the outside, extending above the. roof with a fan at
the top. This is apadequate to remove the fumes from the room and allows the
the fumes to penetrate the whole plant. He is therefore asking for permission
to install a twelve inch round pipe in place of the present duct. The Board
recommends that the request be granted, and the reco~ilendation was unanimously
approved.

Request was received from O. H. Bogen asking for a permit to install an
electric range and a small sink in the room over the attached garage to his house
to be used only for his own family purposes. He wishes also~construct an entrance
from the outside to this room, but. the entrance would be on the rear of the house
where it would not be visible from the street. The Board recommends that this
request be granted, and upon motion made and seconded it was unanimou~ly approved.

1

:.

.,1

I..
38

The annual report of the City Engineer for the year 1940 was presented and
39~ ordered placed on file.

Reporting on the recent request for vacation of streets of thearea at 19th

~
