Upon motion <br />4~ bade and seconded the recommendation was approved. <br /> <br />A contract with the Eugene Rural Fire District No. 1 for rural fire <br />~rotection from the City of Eugene was presented and discussed. M~tion was made <br />and seconded that ~esolution be adopted authorizing and directing the Mayor and <br />,',City Recorder to execute the contract in behalf of the City of Eugene and it was <br />41 so ordered. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Ilt.'"" <br /> <br />:-~ <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />\. <br />42 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the <br />City of Eugene that the Mayor and Recorder be and they <br />are hereby directed and required to execute on behalf <br />of the City of Eugene the hereto attached contract with <br />the Eugene Rural Fire.District No.1 <br /> <br />The permanent report of the Planning Co~mission presented at the <br />~ast council meeting and recommending the denial of a proposal to change the <br />~lassification of a tract of land lying on each side of Seventh Avenue from the <br />city limits on the West to a point 66 feet East of the East line of Taylor Street <br />ras again presented. Motion was made by Councilman Barette, seconded by Council- <br />~an Bond, that the report be approved and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I The City Recorder opened the sealed bids called for on the construction <br />of entrance doors for the Eugene Fire Department. The following bids were received: <br /> <br />Ed Walder - - - -$1135.00 <br />Arnt Ree - -$ 880.00 <br /> <br />K. K. Folgedalen - - - $940.00 <br />A. A. Reeves -- - - - $780.00 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />,Mr. A. A. Reeves submitting the lowe~bid was awarded the contract by unanimous <br />43 bonsent of the council. <br /> <br />I Curb cut applications were presented from Mrs. Loretta Harper, $825, <br />~nd Duane Crabtree\ $826. The City Engineer recommended that the cuts be granted <br />put marked off by the Engineering Department. A curb cut application was also <br />presented from Mrs. McAlpin, #827. The Engineer recommended that the cut be granted. <br />\~otion was made and seconded unanimously approving the recommendations of the City <br />44 Engineer. <br /> <br />II Communication was presented from City Attorney S. M. Calkins stating <br />~hat a bill was being presented to the State Legislature to give the Oregon State <br />~ighway Commission power to regulate the closing of streets going through cities. <br />~f the bill should go throu~~, they can close off any connecting highway in Eugene <br />~hat they choose. He felt this matter should be broughtm the attention of the <br />bouncil. After a short discussion the matter was referred to the City Attorney <br />4~~nd Judiciary Committee to investigate and report back to the council. <br /> <br />II Communication was presented signed by Orren Brownson, Chairman of the <br />~ealth Committee, Chief of Police Bergman, Chief of the Fir~ Department, W. E. <br />~usbaum, and BUilding Inspector, S. R. Mosher, recommending that the old barn at <br />338 Madison Street be condemned and torn down. After a short discussion, motion <br />\ ~as made and seconded unanimously approving the recommendation and the City Attorney <br />46 ~as instructed to instigate the necessary condemnation proceedings. <br /> <br />II An executed deed was presented from Mrs. Lottie N. Rugh giving to <br />~he City of Eugene for street purposes the West 5 feet of each of Lots 2, 7, and 8, <br />Block 1, Rugh's Second Addition. Motion was made and seconded to accept the deed <br />47' !nd it. was so ordered. , <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />difficulty in cleaning the down town streets because of the number of cars parked <br />!t all hour.s of the night and he felt that there should be some restrictions on <br />parking after midnight so the Street Department could-keep the streets clean. <br />,lhe matter was referred back to the Street Committee to study and report back to <br />48 the council. <br /> <br />I Mayor large stated that G. D. Maclare'l, Chairman of the Eugene School <br />~oard, had asked for a joint meeting of the Common Council and the School Board <br />~o meet with P. H. Huedepohl, Manager of Jantzen Swimming Association of Portland, <br />pregon to discuss the proposed swimming pool for Eugene. The Mayor set Friday , <br />~vening, January 31, at 7:30 o'clock in the Council Chambers as the time and place <br />,for the meeting and the City Recorder was instructed to notify the School Board <br />49 ~f this action. <br /> <br />Councilman Carlson reported that the Street Department was having <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I,. <br /> <br />At this tim~ Councilman Fred C.
