Motion was made and seconded unanim- <br />ously approving the recommendations. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Bond reported tha~here was a sandwich wagon located on the south <br />'- side of Fifth Street between Pearl and High and this is to be taken care of by the <br />33 Health Committee. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from Reverend V. T. Speece of the Bethany <br />Evangelical Church to be erected on Eighth and Monroe Streets, aSking for a grant <br />to locate the north end of the building on Eighth Street up to seven feet of the <br />sidewalk. Upon motion made and seconded the matter was referred to the Board of <br />34 Appeals, with a request that they report back to the council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals reporting they had <br />received a request from C. A. Witham asking for a permit to erect a wooden frame <br />canopy with storm-seal galvanized iron roof to take the place of the qld canvass <br />awning on the Signal Service Station lot at Tenth Avenue and Oak Street. The Board <br />l recommends that this request be denied, and motion was made and seconded unanimously <br />35 approving the recommendation of the Board. <br /> <br />Request was also received from Mr. and Mrs. Bertie Kellogg asking for a <br />permit to make alterations in the house at 1404 Twenty-Third Avenue East and to <br />install additional plumbing in order to be able to rent sleeping rooms. The Eoard <br />~recommends that the request be granted on condition that no outside stairway be <br />36 erected and the recommendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />A petition was presented to the Council asking for the vacation of 24th <br />Avenue between Olive and Lincoln Streets. Upon being informed that all abutting <br />property owners had not signed, any definite action was postponed until all signa- <br />tures were had. However, motion was made and seconded instructing the City Attorney <br />to prepare necessary papers initiating the vacation as soon as all necessary signa- <br />37~tures were obtained. <br /> <br />Petition was presented to the council asking that the city investigate <br />the conditions of that portion of the west end of second street which is just east <br />of the railroad and thereafter do whatever is necessary and proper to place said <br />street in a passable condition. Councilman Bond also requested the Street Committee <br />_ to consider the possible improvements of Ash Street. Both matters were referred <br />38 to the Street Committee. <br /> <br />~, <br /> <br />-I <br /> <br />The following curb cut applications were presented: No. 836 for Hale Thompso ;' <br />No. 83? for Ben H. Weber;- and No. 838 for H. J. Jones.'- The/City Engineer recommende <br />that the cuts be granted and motion was made and seconded unanimously approving <br />39 the recorr~endation of the committee. . <br /> <br /> <br />Resolution was presented authorizing the cancellation of certain warrants <br />which had been issued for certain airport property, and upon motion made and seconde <br />46 the resolution was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />RES 0 L U T ,ION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on the 31st day of December, 1940 the Council at <br />a special meeting authorized the Mayor and City Recorder to issue <br />warrants to Elisha Large, Mayor, for the purchase of the J. Clyde <br />Hurzeler and George W. and Gladys Boqua properties in order to <br />cash the warrants and have available money for the filing of <br />suits in case it became necessary, and also authorized the <br />Mayor and City Recorder to issue other warrants necessary for the <br />purchase of the new airport, and <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, warrants numbered 54096 and 5409? issued to <br />Elisha Large, Mayor, for the Hurzeler property and warrants <br />numbered 54098 and 54099 issued to Elisha Large, Mayor, for the <br />Boqua property, were duly authorized and issued on December 31, <br />1940, and <br /> <br />ViliEREAS, it later developed that it was not necessary to~ <br />use these four warrants made out to E~isha Large, Mayor, and <br />warrants numbered 54111 and 54112 dated December 31, ,1940 were <br />issued to J. Clyde Hurzeler and warrants numbered 54369 and 54370 <br />dated January 31, 1941 were issued to George W. and Gladys Boqua, <br />and upon tendering these warrants for payment of the property, <br />the original warrants numbered 54096, 54097, 54098, and 54099, <br />were returned to the City Recorder; these four warrants never having <br />been presented to the Treasurer for payment or registration and <br />proper notation having been made on the Recorder's warrant Register <br />showing that they have been cancelled; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />..... <br />
