No. 870; Mrs. Julia Schumaker No' 8~7iFred Meeds ~ol~869; Henry Wendt No.871; <br />47~ and one curb cut for 966 Oak Street for the Jim Branner Tire Company was held up. <br /> <br />Ordinance Nwnber 8677 amending K6ll was presentedcfor its first reading <br />and under suspension fo the rules by unanimous consent of the council was pre-' <br />sented for its second and third readings by title and pla ced for final passage. <br />48 The roll was called with all councilmen voting aye. <br /> <br />A resolution allowi~g the tidewater Associated Oil Company to erect <br />a building or structure up to the property line of 6th Avenue West with the <br />provision that any time the city of Eugene shall widen 6th Avenue West that the <br />building 'shall be dismantled back 16 feet at no cost to the city, was read and <br />49 adopted. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />..~.... <br />~, <br />~ <br /> <br />A motion by Dond and seconded by Drownson that the Mayor and the <br />City Recorder be authoiized to enter into contract with the Tidewater Associatid <br />50 Oil Company, a corporation, to this effect was carried. <br /> <br />RE~OLUTION <br /> <br />The Mayor and Recorder of the City of Eugene be and <br />they are hereby authorized and directed to enter into <br />an agreement with the Tidewater .Associated Oil Company, <br />a corporation, respecting the p~operty described in <br />the hereto attached contract, perinitting the seid <br />I Tidewater Associated Oil Company to erect a building <br />orsturcture up to the property line -of Sixth Avenue <br />West, with a provision that at any time the city of <br />Eugene shall widen Sixth Avenue West that the l <br />building shall be dismantled back for sixteen feet, <br />and that no damages shall be claimed by said Tide- <br />water ~ss0ciated Oil Company, or its successors in <br />interest, except for the land taken. . <br /> <br />Figures by the City Lngineer regarding the construction of a sewer to <br />the Eugene Plywood Company was referred to the city attorney to bring in an <br />51 ordinance to the next meeting. <br /> <br />The City Engineer also reported in detail on a bunch of sidewalk bills <br />on which second notices had been sent out and to which no replies had been made. <br />The City Engineer asked that these various people be assesed for this work and the <br />52 list was turned over to the city attorney to bring in the proper ordinance. <br /> <br />Ordinance 8678 initiating the vacation of an alley described as follows: <br />All of that portion of the alley in Block 2 of Hamble Addition to Eugene lying east <br />and south of the extension of the north line of Lot 10 Block 2 across the alley, all <br />in Lane County, Oregon; was presented for its first reading and under suspension of <br />the rules by unanimous consent of the council was presented for its second and third <br />readings by title and placed for final passage. The roll was called with all <br />53 councilmen voting aye. <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that C. A. Horton had filed the final report for <br />54 the audit ending December 31, 1940, this was referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br />Mayor Large reported that Dr. G. I. Hurley had resigned from the <br />Boxing Commission and that he was appointing at this time Harry Talbot to, that <br />55 pos,ition. Motion made and seconded that this appointment be confirmed was carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported that it had been suggested to him that a sign should <br />be erected close to the highway Showing the entrance to the new Municipal Airport. <br />Councilman Bond said that he thought there should be two signs, one for each road th t <br />is intended to be opened. It was the opinion of .the council-that these signs should <br />be erected. Councilman Hawn said that he believed that by allowing the contractors <br />to use a part of the space that they could get these' signs erected free of charge. <br />This was left in Mr. Hawn's hands to ,c,:mtact the contractors and see wha t could be <br />done. <br /> <br />56 <br /> <br />57 <br /> <br />A letter from Colonel Lyon, head of the R. O. T~ C., stated that the <br />end of the school year activities would be held on Howe Field, May 29th and all the <br />councilmen were asked to attend. <br /> <br />58 <br /> <br />Councilman Hawn remarked regarding $5,566,924.49 surplus carried on the <br />city books and he further added that he would like to know of what that consisted. <br />iRe said he understood that numerous pieces of equipment had been traded in on new <br />!equiPment were still carried in that account. It was pminted out to Mr. Hawn <br />that this matter had already been taken up with Mr. Lemon, who is additing the city <br />books for this year and later in the year he would have a report on this subject. <br /> <br />Councilman Stewart said that residents on East Broadway were complainin~ <br /> <br />about the soot from the New Service Launq.ry Chimney.
