He stated that <br /> Polk Street was developing fast in this neighborhood and there were six new <br /> houses on Polk Street close to 13th. It was the recommendation of hi~ committee <br /> that the request for this street light be granted. Councilman StewaEt made a <br /> 19 motion to this effect, which was seconded by Pennington and carried. I <br /> At this time Mayor Large stated that sometime ago there had been a request <br /> by the Red C.ross to construct a stairway on their buildi-ng at 31 West 8th Avenue.' <br /> Councilman Baretteeexplained that'~he had talked to Mr. Mosher only this afternoon <br /> and Mr. Mosher, the building inspector, said the plans had been presented 'and <br /> were accepted by the building inspector's office.' A motion was made by Bond and <br /> seconded by Barette that the Red Cross be allowed to erect this stairway according <br /> 20 to the plans presented. The motion was carried. <br /> << <br /> A letter was read from the Board of Appeals and motion was made and seconde <br /> that the first two requests in the letter be adopted by the council. Motion was <br /> carried. The requests were as follows: <br /> A request from Mrs. ,Lance Hart asking permission to use the studio of her I <br /> home at the southeast corner of the intersection of UniverSity and 18th Avenue <br /> as a gift shop. Mrs. Hart is a recent widow with two small children to support. <br /> 21 The Board recommends that this request be granted. <br /> A request was received from Larry P. Watson asking for permission to erect <br /> a stucco covered -fire wall on his new building at 32 Eleventh Avenue East.' The <br /> 22 Board.recommends that the request be denied. <br /> A request was received from C. J. Albert asking for a permit for an' auto I <br /> court on Franklin Blvd. just we'st of the Anchorage. As this is a question of <br /> zonfngj:the Board is referring the request, to the council without recommendation. <br /> Th'6'counci'1 suggested that it Was hard at this time to te"ll 'just what the situatio <br /> would be' in regard to the new highway that would be put' through'tand it', was further <br /> pointed out that there was an ordinance on record against auto courts in this <br /> vIcinity on accouilt of. oe!hng close to the University. Also, the auto court would <br /> be next door ,to an auto court for which special permit had been granted to Mr. <br /> 11. B. Brady,.
