Lindgren of $450.00 cash for part of Lots 4 and'5, Block 2, Fairmount Heights Addition. Upon motion made and seconded this recommendation was accepted ,by the 141 council. The offer of Arthur Reihl of $500.00, $25.00 returned if construction is started within 90 days -for the South 90.0 feet of the West 63 feet of Lot 3, Block 17, Fairmount Addition was accepted with.one insurance policy included. Councilman Stewart reporting for the Fire and Water Committee stated he had a request for a street light at the corner of 13th and Polk. He stated that Polk Street was developing fast in this neighborhood and there were six new houses on Polk Street close to 13th. It was the recommendation of hi~ committee that the request for this street light be granted. Councilman StewaEt made a 19 motion to this effect, which was seconded by Pennington and carried. I At this time Mayor Large stated that sometime ago there had been a request by the Red C.ross to construct a stairway on their buildi-ng at 31 West 8th Avenue.' Councilman Baretteeexplained that'~he had talked to Mr. Mosher only this afternoon and Mr. Mosher, the building inspector, said the plans had been presented 'and were accepted by the building inspector's office.' A motion was made by Bond and seconded by Barette that the Red Cross be allowed to erect this stairway according 20 to the plans presented. The motion was carried. << A letter was read from the Board of Appeals and motion was made and seconde that the first two requests in the letter be adopted by the council. Motion was carried. The requests were as follows: A request from Mrs. ,Lance Hart asking permission to use the studio of her I home at the southeast corner of the intersection of UniverSity and 18th Avenue as a gift shop. Mrs. Hart is a recent widow with two small children to support. 21 The Board recommends that this request be granted. A request was received from Larry P. Watson asking for permission to erect a stucco covered -fire wall on his new building at 32 Eleventh Avenue East.' The 22 Board.recommends that the request be denied. A request was received from C. J. Albert asking for a permit for an' auto I court on Franklin Blvd. just we'st of the Anchorage. As this is a question of zonfngj:the Board is referring the request, to the council without recommendation. Th'6'counci'1 suggested that it Was hard at this time to te"ll 'just what the situatio would be' in regard to the new highway that would be put' through'tand it', was further pointed out that there was an ordinance on record against auto courts in this vIcinity on accouilt of. oe!hng close to the University. Also, the auto court would be next door ,to an auto court for which special permit had been granted to Mr. 11. B. Brady,. After some discussion a motio& was made by P~nntngton and seon~ed by 23 Barette that this request be laid on the table. Motion was carried. ~
