Upon mmtion made and seconded this request was granted. ;if:' <br /> <br />A request from the Standard Oil Company for a permit to alter a building at <br />the Northwest corner of Broadway and Pearl Streets, for Garge and service station <br />at an estimated cost of $6000.00 was read. It was pointed out that the Standard <br />Oil Company already had one service station across the street and there were no <br />I plans on file to show just what these alterations would be. After some discussion <br />26 by the council a motion was made and seconded that this request be laid on the table. <br /> <br />Three requests from the Shell Oil Company to install, three 1000 gallon and <br />one 2000 gallon underground storage tanks at 315 E. Broadway; three 1000gallon and <br />one 2000 gallon underground storage tanks at 93 6th Avenue West; and three 1000 <br />gallon and one 2000 gallon underground storage tanks at the Southwest corner of 7th <br />27 and. Blair on Lots 2 and 3, Block 25, Packard's Addition~ were allowed. <br /> <br />A request from the Crystal Ice Company for permission to install a 6000 <br />gallon gasoline storage tank on their property at 777 East Broadway for their 'own <br />use and to be installed according to city specifications was read. Councilman <br />Pennington stated this was a large tank and was c1-ose to the gas works and it was <br />his opinion that this should be held up until further investigation. A question ' <br />was r,a:tsed as to why the Crystal Ice Company would want a 6000 gallon tank for gas'o~ <br />line storage.[~+'Councilman Bond explained that they had just allowed the Shell Oil <br />Compahy to extend their gasoline. storage at three different,places and that the <br />Crystal Ice Company was a local concern and should be given the same consideration <br />as the gasoline.companies. He stated that if the request of the Crystal Ice Compahy <br />was to.be held up the Oil company's request should be held up also. A motion was <br />made by Bond and seconded by Brownson. that this request be granted. Councilman <br />voting for the motion were Bond, Brownson('Barette, Hawn, Farrington and Koppe; no <br />28 Pennington and Stewart. Motion was carried. <br /> <br />A request for a refund of $1.00 on an electrical permit No. 825 by C. J. <br />II 29 Miller was granted. <br /> <br />A letter from Harry B. Johnson at 2255 Washington Street was read. He stated <br />that there is no sewer where he lives and that his septic tank was causing trouble <br />for a neighbor living down the hill. He asked the council to do something for him <br />in regard to a sewer. This matter was referred for further consideration to the <br />30 Sewer and Street Committees. <br /> <br />A req~est from Emily L. Robinson for a refund of 114.05 which was an over <br />payment on the' paving at Washington Street for the East 2 of Lot 3, Block 7, 'Elias <br />Stewart's Addition was read. This payment had,been maae~!n June, 1929 aDd a payment <br />made in Septbember, 1926 which should have paid up the balance due had been credited <br />to the wrong account. The reason for the delay in asking for a refund was that Mrs. <br />Robinson was unable to find a receipt and had only recently located the check that <br />had been issued in September, 1926. Councilman Farrington explained that thiS was <br />purely a bOOkkeeping error and Mrs. Robinson was entitled to her refund. A motion <br />31 was made, seconded and carried to this effect. <br /> <br />A claim of Stanley O'Hare for $10.23 for a door which had been kicked in by <br />~ 32 police officers at 1042 Olive Street was denied. <br /> <br />Curb cuts numbers: 900 at 1470 East 17th Avenue; 901, 2367Willamette; and <br />902, 1863 Moss Street, as recommended by City Engineer Clubb were allowed. One curb <br />cut at 8~6 7th Avenue West for the Shell Oil Company was referred to the Street <br />I 33 Committee with the power to act. <br /> <br />The Eugene Public Library report for the month of July, 1941 was read and <br />34 ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that.Jens Sorenson of the Bethel Fire District had <br />called at the office during'the afternoon and had stated the Bethe_l Fire District <br />would like to have a renewal of their contract for the'year 1942., The Mayor ex- <br />plained that these contracts were drawn from year to year with the understanding <br />1- that they did not see any reason why the contract should not be renewed. A motion <br />35 made by Stewart and seconded by Bond that this contract be renewed was carried. <br /> <br />An ordinance reclassi~ying the three corners of 19th and Hilyard Streets <br />omitting the Northwest corner, from a business district to a multiple family <br />residence district had its second reading and under suspension of the rules was rea <br />for the third time. The Mayor call1ed for objections and there being none, roll was <br />36 called- wi th all councilmen voting aye. Ordinance 8687 was declared pass'ed. <br /> <br />An ordinance requiring the removal and discontinuance of all pumps and device <br />located within the street limits of any street in the City of Eugene within six mont s <br /> <br />and providing a penalty had its third reading. The Mayor called for objections and <br /> <br /> <br />.... <br />
