The Mayor called / <br /> for objections and there being none,'roll was oalled with all councilmen voting / <br /> 45 aye. Ordinance 8690 was dec~ared passed. <br /> An- ordinanc~ declaring it unlawful to drink alcoholic liquors upon the street , <br /> alleys, parks or public places within the City of Eugene,. fixing a penalty, was <br /> read for the; fir~t time and unde:r",~uspen~ion of the rule?! hed its second and third <br /> readings. The Mayor called for objections and there bein~(rione, roll was called <br /> 46 with all councilmen voting aye. Ordinance 869~ was declared passed. <br /> An ordinance to regulate public drinking fountains in the City of Eugene .and <br /> imposing a penalty was read for the first time and under suspension of xhe rules <br /> had its second and third readings. The Mayor called for,objections and there being <br /> 47 none, roll was called with all councilmen-voting ayei" Ordi~ance S692 was declared <br /> I passed. <br /> At this time Mayor Large statedth!3,t Ray H. Pence was wprking as bookkeeper <br /> in the Recorder's and Treasurer's office' and Lien Department. He requested that <br /> the name of Mr. Pence be put.. on the payroll at $100.00 per month. A motion made <br /> 48 and seconded, to this effect was carried. <br /> , . <br /> An ordinance fo~ the safe'guarding of the use of gasoline and fJ,lel oil <br /> together with the installation there ~ad its first reading August 11th. . " . <br /> At this time, Mayor Large appointed the following citizen members for the <br /> Budget Committee: crharles L. Sigloh, Edward F. Bailey, George H. McMorran, C. A. <br /> Horton, Herb J. Cox, Robert M. Fischer Jr. ~. C. Scharpf and Dr. A.E. Qaswell. A <br /> 50 motion by Bond and seconded by Hawn that, this committee be confirmed was carried. <br /> Councilman Hawn stated that the garage and tool shed used': by Mr. 1.oamb 'at the <br /> back of Skinner's Buttee needed rebuilding. He stated there was #700.00 in the <br /> v;Par~ budget for WPA work that had not been used and there was no prospect of using <br /> it this year. He sta.ted he would like to use this money for the erection of the <br /> garage and tool shed. A motion was made and seconded that the Park committee be <br /> 51 allow~d to do this work providing they could get instructions from Attorney Calkins <br /> that 1t would be ~egal to use the money which had been setpup for lVPA. . <br /> 52 Cou~cilm~n Bond presented Councilman Pennington with an electric percolator <br /> I asa wedd1ng glft at the close of th~ meeting. . <br /> There being no further business, council adjourned. <br /> I <br /> ~ <br />
