Dr. Lindgren was not exactly a new man in Eugene b~t ~ad been with the <br /> I Welfare W~orkers\about four years and had also estsblished a private practice. ~'1 <br /> Mr. Brownson stated that Dr. Lindgren was still carrying on a private practice along <br /> ,-."., <br /> with the health work. Brownson said the one thing he wished to get over with the -... ~ <br /> council was that in his opinion the City was getting full value for their money ~lJ <br /> and Dr. ~indgren would be more than willing to cooperate with the City in anyway ......,.' <br /> " " <br /> 20 possible. ','l'o~' , <br /> Councilman Pennington reported regarding a sewer at 23rd and Washington. The <br /> property owners in that district had requested the City to install a sewer. He <br /> I stated some of the prOI)erty owners in that district had gone together and were <br /> willing to pay the cost of the sewer, although not all of the property owners were <br /> c;:'.1lltributing at this time. He said he would like to have a ruling from the City <br /> Attorney if some kind of a contract could not be entered into so that in the future <br /> when the other property owners wished to connect to the sewer the parties that paid <br /> for the sewer c,juld be reimbursed. Attorney Calkins stated that some kind of an <br /> ordinance would have to be passed giving these people permission to install a sewer <br /> and he wes sure some way could be worked out that would be satisfE!ctory to the <br /> people paying for the sewer. Engineer Clubb stated that it seemed to him to be <br /> necessary for the City to advertise for bids for the construction of this sewer. <br /> The matter Vias referred to the City Attorney to report back at the next council <br /> 21 meeting. <br /> Mayor Large request that the Recorder read a letter from the Eugene Chamber <br /> of Commerce complimenting the Police Department on their excellent work in regard <br /> to the traffic si tuation and t_la t at~-a 'recen't meeting of the Chamber of Commerce <br /> 22 unanimous approval was voiced at the campaign for traffic enforcement. <br /> It was reported there was some rock needed at the City Dump grounqs and also <br /> the road leading to the dwnp grounds needed repairing badly. Engineer Glubb stClted <br /> it would tbke about ten yards of rock inside of the dump grounds and some on the <br /> road leadinb to it. A motion was me,de by Brownson and seconded by Stewart that the <br /> rock be furnished for the dumI) grounds and that the road be repaired by the street <br /> department under direction of the City Engineer. Funds for this expense to be <br /> 23 taken out of the Emergency Fund. Motion was carried. <br /> 'I County.Iudge Hurd had come into the council chambers and Mayor Large asked if <br /> 'he had something he wished to take up with the council. Judge Hurd stated that the <br /> Ferry Street bridge was old and inadequate to handle the traffic now using it and <br /> it was the County's intention to provide funds in the 1942 and 1943 budget for a <br /> new bridge. He stated it would probably belocated further down stream then the <br /> present bridge and it should be connected with High Street. He said the County <br /> would need a landing on this side of the river and he was reporting this to the <br /> council to think over. Mayor Large said it was good news the county Wi:. s going to <br /> build a brid~e and the City would be willing to cooperate with them in any way <br /> 24 i)ossi ble. <br /> Councilman Stewart asked regarding the old barn a.t 338 Madison and Attorney <br /> 25 Calkins stated he WbS preparing papers for the condernnc~a tion of the bnrn. <br /> MayOr Large spoke of the bad condition of the sidewalk in front of the Hoffman <br /> Hotel at vVillamette and Broadway and said he flet tl18t something should be done at <br /> once to remedy the condi tion. Engineer 01\.~bb said he had taken the matter. upwi th <br /> Mr. Ransom several times and he thought Mr. Ransom had hired a contractor to do the <br /> 26 work. Mayor Large asked Mr. Clubb to try to cet the work started. <br /> An ordinance amending Ordinance 8413 and ch~nging the following described <br /> property, to:-wit: <br /> Lot 6 and the West 24.8 feet of Lot 7, Block 3, Wallis Dorris Addition <br /> I to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. <br /> The area lying between Willamette Street and rlilyard Street and North <br /> of 19th Avenue, Eugene, Lane County, Or,egon. <br /> Lot 2, and the North half of Lot 3, Block 18, Gross Addition to Eugene, <br /> Lane County, Oregon. <br /> Lot 8, Block, 22, COllege Hill Perk Addition to Eugene, Lane County, OrE;gon. <br /> I The East 44 feet of Lot 5, and the West 16 feet of Lot 6, Block 4, Wallis <br /> Dorris Addition to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. <br /> rom a single family residence district to multiple family residence districts, had <br /> . its first reading on October 27th and was read for the second time. The Mayor <br /> called for objections and there being none, under suspnesion of the rules this <br /> 27 erdinance was read for third time and on .1'011 call all councilmen present voted aye. <br /> Ordinance 8699 was declared passed. <br /> A letter was read from S.
