They were all for renwwals of the existing licenses. <br /> A resolution authorizing the May,or and Recorder to sign a deed with <br /> 21 ~. W. Evans was passed. <br /> RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council 01'_ the ,City of ,Eugene <br /> that is as much as it is to the interest of A. W. Evans that the <br /> hereto attached deed be executed. <br /> It is Therefore Ordered, that the Mayor and City hecorder <br /> be and they are hereby ahthorized and dir~cted to execute and <br /> deliver on behalf of the City of Eugene the hereto attached deed <br /> from the City of Eugene, a municipal corporation to A. W. Evans. <br /> A letter from Fred G. Knox asking for a refund of $9.27 for ce'rtain <br /> payments he had made on sidewalk repairs was read and referred to the Judiciary <br /> 22 Committee and the City Attorney. <br /> A request from Arthur Riehl asking for a refund of $25.00 on the East 63 <br />I feet of Lot 3, Block 17, Fairmount Addition was read. When Mr. Riehl purchased <br /> this property from the City in June, 1941, it was agreed that he should have, a <br /> refund of $25.00 if construction was started in ninety days. Engineer Clubb re- <br /> ported that cons~ruction had started in ninety days and on motion made and seconded <br /> , 23 the refund was ordered made. <br /> A letter from the men of the Bible Class of the Baptist Church objecting <br /> to the Sunday night dance recently held in the Armory was read. They expressed <br /> 24~the wish that the Council cooperate in keeping the City clean morally in the future. <br /> The Aecorder reported that a letter had been received from the American <br /> La France Foamite Corporation of Elmira, New York, stating that since the council <br /> had objected to the substitution of steel rungs for the ladders, the best date <br /> they could offer at this time was that the ladders would probably be shipped some- <br /> . 25 ~time in January. <br /> A letter from the Lane County Health Department signed by W. J Cloyes, <br /> . <br /> Sanitarian, Objecting to the monoxide gas created by the warming up of fire trucks <br /> in the morning. The letter stated it seemed this work could be done out in the <br /> 26 ""street and the matter was referred to the Fire and Water Committee for consideration <br /> A .letter was read from Robert H. Lemon stating that the audit of the City <br /> books had been three-fourths completed and asked for payment for three-fourths of <br /> the ye'ar. Councilman Hawn stated a bill for July, Augus t, and September was in the <br /> 27 ~bills and would be o,ktd by the Finance Committee. ' , <br />.1 Reports from the Eugene Publ:l.c .L.ibrary for th13 months of October and <br /> November were read and reports from the Pol~ce Department and Engineer for the <br /> 28 ~onth of November were read and ordered placed on file. <br /> Councilman Hawn stated he had ~eport6 regarding unnecessary no~se late <br /> at night at the recreation building in hendricks ~ark. - He said this complaint <br /> had not come in only once but that one party was very insistent that something <br /> be done. .He said the parties were carried on until as late as 2 otclock in the <br />I morning and very much unnecessary noise was made". Councilman Barette said this <br /> matter had been gone into by t~e Park Committee several yeers ago and they used <br /> to furnish four or five cords of wood for the fire place and it ,would be burned <br /> up in one or two nights. No lights could be kept in the building and the building <br /> was continually being destroyed. Councilman Barette stated this was the work of <br /> young people holding wild parties up there in the park. Councilman Stewart stated <br /> that if these were the conditions up there, the police should make some arrests <br /> and fines should be levied. Councilman Bond said he agreed with Mr. Stewart and <br /> the Police Department would be mnstructed to answer any calls that might be made <br /> 29 regarding this situation. <br /> ~ <br />
