The Recorder reported that the Cone Lumber Company had paid $100.00 as
fire protection for 1942 but that other companies had not responded as readily.
There was considerable discussion as to how much time should be allowed for these
payments to be made. Councilman Hawn stated that the ordinance had been passed
stating that payments be made by January lOth and he thought this should be
adhered to. Councilman Farrington and Barette also stated they did not favor
the idea of giving them a month's time. After somedisucssion as to just when
these payments should be made or service discontinued, a motion was made by Brown
Engineer Clubbahd furnished the Mayor with a statement regarding curb
gas pumps. Ordinance 8688 had been passed on August 26, 1941 ordering the
removal of all curb pwnps by January 1, 1942 but that notices were sent out
November 25, 1941. Engineer Clubb stated he had made an inspection on January
9th and that only two pumps had been removed. The Korn Bakery had stated they
were unable to get a tank at this time and asked for additional time to make
the change. On account of condition, it seemed ti was impossible for some of
the people to comply with the ordinance to remove the pumps by January 1st. Mr.
Clubbstated he had been told it would take from two to three weeks to secure tank
Attorney Calkins pointed out that the ordinance regarding these pumps provided
for a penalty up to $200.00 for not complying with the ordinance. A motion was
made by Koppe ~d seconded by Bond that the Recorder be instructed to notify
the owners of these pumps that ~Jing to conditions enforcement of the ordinance
would be delayed until Februa~yylst, 1942 and that then it would be strictly
enforced. Motion was carried. .
