This petition was signed by 74 residents and property <br />owners. Ivir. Clubb stated that this was a Sewer that connected up with the main <br />trunk sewer running parallel with the Southern Pacific tracks, but there was nothi i2 <br />that could be done until the trunk sewer was enlarged. The petition was ordered <br />placed on file. <br /> <br />.~ <br />-..J <br /> <br />14 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A request to transfer a Beer License f~mm Louis C. DeBurgh anm <br />15 Tad Clair Luckey to Lucinda DeBurgh was presented. This J;Erm:Ssion was granted., <br /> <br />Howard Akers asked for a building permit refund of $6.00 stating <br />that the contractor Mr. C. C. Geist, went out of business before starting his <br />house and since the delay he has not been able to secure the materia,ls. This <br />refund was granted. <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />A resolution regarding the use of City cars was read. <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI ~ <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene <br />tha t the following rules be adopted with" reference to City owned <br />cars: <br /> <br />(a) All City owned cars must be kept mn City <br />property nights, holidays, and Sundays. <br /> <br />(b) The Park cars are to be kept in the Park garage. <br /> <br />(c) All other City owned cars and trucks, except <br />Police cars, are to be kept in the Street Department <br />Building at 101 West 5th Avenue. <br /> <br />(d) All employees shall furnish their own transportation <br />in coming to and leaving work. <br /> <br />(e) City owned cars shall be used only on errands of <br />the muniCipality. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington stated that Mr. LeVan had calls at night regarding street <br />work and thought that Mr. LeVan should be allowed to take the City car home with <br />him. Councilman Bond stated that the City had furnished Mr. LeVan with a car <br />for several years and that he thought it should be discontinued. On motion made <br />and seconded, the resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />The following curb cuts were presented: W. A. Horsley, 1061 <br />Washington St.; School District #4) 1275 Monroe Street; Mrs. Astrid Lindsay, <br />i~ 1124 Almaden Street. On motion made and seDnded, these requests were granted. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />The reports of the Police Department, Public Library, Water Board, <br />and Police Matron) and City Engineer were read and ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that in 1941 there was a total of 194 <br />tobacco licenses collected and that at this time all the tobacco licenses for the <br />year 1942 had been paid and that there was a total of 200. He also reported that <br />all of the milk licenses had been paid except the one for the Eugene Farmers <br />Creamery in an amount of $80.00 and stated that they had asked to be allowed to mak <br />their payment on July 1. The Recorder was instructed to notify the Eugene Farmers <br />Creamery that the license, was due the first of the year and that the amount should <br />be paid without further delay. The Recorder also brought up the question of the <br />Second Hand Dealer's License and was instructed to have the Attorney draw a compaai t <br />18 where the licenses hadnot been secured. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mayor Large reported that Judge Hurd had been endeavoring to <br />secure a r'oad from the Ferry Street Bridge to the Eugene Fruit Growers Plant. He <br />said it had been suggested that the alley East of High Street from 6th to 8th <br />might be used and that he wished to refer this matter to the street committee to <br />19 report back at the next Council Meeting. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mayor Large reported that he wished to recoIT~end that Mr. J. <br />Wesley Casey be deputized as a special police explaining that Mr. Casey was head <br />of one of the Divisions of the Defense Wardens. On motion made and seconded, <br />20 this request was granted. <br /> <br />At.this time, Councilman Hawn read a letter addressed to him by <br />Mr. Vi. T. Switzer, Manager of Montgomery Ward regarding reports from the Fire <br />Department about the sprinkler system in the Montgomery-Ward Building and about <br />lack of inspections by the Fire Department at the Montgomery-Ward Building. Mr. <br />Switzer also suggested that there was a lack of proper inspections by the' Fire <br />2l~ Department of buildings in the downtown area. <br /> <br />Mayor Large at this time stqted tha tit would be necessary'.,in the <br />near future to furnish electridity at the new airport. He said there were two or <br />three ways that this could be done and he wished to refer the matter to the Fire <br />and Water COlnmittee for investigation. <br /> <br />:J.J- <br />~ <br /> <br />...4 <br />
