The Mayor explained that Chief Bergman had <br /> said tHat ei ther of the men would be satisfactory to him. rrhe Mayor explained <br /> that there was only 6/10 of a point between the two highest grades and that the <br /> ma tter of seniority on the :F'orce had had some bearing on the appointment; that <br /> Skipworth had had almost twice as many years service as Brown. Councilman Hawn <br /> stated that he was not particularly impressed with the questions in the written <br /> examination for this appointment and that he thought in2a promotion to sergeant the <br /> 22 appointment should be made with the idea in mind that sometime these men,might be <br /> successors to the Chief of Police. Councilman Barette stated that he was acquainte <br /> with Officer Brown and that he seemed to be very muc~ interested in his work, and <br /> was very efficient and that he was favorable to the appointment of Brown. The <br /> question was called for and on roll call Councilmen voting aye; Bond, Farrington, <br /> Koppe, Stewart, and Pennington. Councilmen voting no; Barette, Brownson, and Hawn. <br /> A request by Elsie Miller for perm ssion to run a boarding house at 217 East <br /> 23 11th Avenue, which had been approved by the Chief of Police, was granted. <br /> The Recorder reported that a warrant for $566.62 had been received from the <br /> 24 Secretary of State for gasoline tax refund. ~",j . <br /> The Recorder also reported that $900.00 had been received from Rural Fire <br /> 25 District No. 1. <br /> .1 <br /> I At this time Councilman Farrington said the Finance Corrnnittee was ready to <br /> report on the property offer received from D. P. Husband, for clients, and tha t <br /> 26 the Finance Committee was recommending that the offer be accepted. On motion <br /> made, seconded, and carried, the recommendation of the Finance Committee was adopte . <br /> Councilman Koppe, reporting for the Judiciary Committee regarding the $100 <br /> license fee paid by the Russell Bros. Circus, stated that it!was the reconwendation <br /> 27 of the Judiciary Committee that this license fee be not 'refunded.
