<br />~ at a:30 P.M. Councilmen present were: Farrington, Koppe, Barette, Hawn, and
<br /> Crumbaker. Absent, Stewart, Brownson, and DaYis.
<br /> mames A. Storer, manager of the Oregon Motor Stages, addressed the Council
<br /> in regard to services after midnight for the S. P. shops. He said they were aSking
<br /> for permission to deviate from the regular route and run a bus on Blair Boulevard
<br /> from 5th Avenue to 8th Avenue, on 8th from Blair to Monroe, on Monroe from 8th
<br /> , to 11 th, and on 11th from Monroe to Willamette. He stated they wished to park
<br />1 i their bus on the south side of 11th at the in tersection of 1Nillamette for about
<br /> : five minutes every thirty minutes from midnight until 6 A.M. in the morning. He
<br /> , stated that the Southern Pacific had been providing transportation from and to the
<br /> ,
<br /> 1 shops after the midnight run and this service was to take the place of the service
<br /> I formerly furnished by the Southern Pac'ific. On motion made, seconded, and c'arr i ed
<br /> I this request was granted.
<br /> I The Judiciary Co~nittee had no report.

<br /> The Finance Committee recommended that the offer of Mrs. Wm.Emigh of $380.00
<br />2 for the east 20 and 2/3 feet of Lot 3 and the west 24 and 1/3 feet of Lot 2,
<br /> , Block 5, Gampbells First Addition be accepted and this reco~Eendation was adopted
<br /> .~ by the Council.
<br /> I The offer of $100.00 for the east 25 feet of the north 110 feet of Lot 13
<br /> I
<br />3 Block 11, Driverton Addttion, submitted by J. F. Cramer, was accepted by the
<br /> Council.
<br /> Mr. Farrington, reporting for the Finance Committee, stated that the bills
<br /> for the month of June had been O.K.'d by the members of the Finance Committee. A
<br /> motion was made and seconded that these bills be allowed and on roll call
<br /> councilmen voting aye: Farrington, Koppe, Hawn, Barette, and Crumbake r; those voting
<br /> no: none; absent: Stewart, Brownson, and Davis. ,
<br /> I The Street Committee, Fire and Water Committee, andthe Health Committee had no I

<br /> !report.

<br /> .1 Councilman Barette, reporting for the Parks Committee said they had received
<br /> I
<br />4 : requests for trimming some trees at the intersections, particularly at the south
<br /> ! west corner of 8th and High Streets, and that the Park Department would undertake
<br /> I to take care of this matter.

<br /> I The Sewer Committee had no report.
<br /> Councilman Hawn reporting for the Police Committee stated that he had a letter
<br /> ! from the State Liquor Control Commissioh at Portland stating that the request of
<br /> ; Mr. M. L. Dow, operating at Newman's Grotto, for a draft beer license, which is
<br /> i retail class "B", had been denied. The Commission explained. that there were
<br /> : sufficient other licenses of this kind in that locality, and further stated they dif
<br /> : not think Mr. Dow was competent to handle the draft beer license. Councilman
<br />5 I Hawn stated Tony mamig, the local man for the Commission had said he wuld be willing
<br /> to write the Commission another letter recommending Mr. Dow be granted this licensel
<br /> and Mr. Hawn stated he would like to hear an expression from the Council as to taking
<br /> the matter up further with the Liquor Commission. Councilmen Farrington, Koppe, I
<br /> and Barette all stated they did not think it advisable for the Council to make any
<br /> other recommendations as they felt the State Liquor Commission was qualified to mak
<br /> the final decision. Councilman Hawn said if that was the sentiment of the Council
<br /> that would end the matter.

<br /> , Mayor Large stated he had some complaints regarding dogs running at large
<br /> :
<br /> i and that he had requested the parties to contact Mr. Claypool as head of the Humane
<br /> ,
<br />6 I Society. Both Mr. Farrington and Mr. Hawn said they had received several'favorable
<br /> :
<br /> notices in regard to the work of the Humane Officer, and they thought the situation
<br />I was working out very well regarding the handling of the dogs.

<br /> 1 Mayor Large also stated he had a complaint from the Library in regard to the
<br /> t

<br />? . boys parking their bicycles on the south side of the lawn along the wall of the
<br /> I This matter was referred to the Police Committee.
<br /> i Employment Agency. I

<br /> 1 J. M. Murray requested a curb cut at 146 E. 11th Avenue, this request having
<br />8 1 been O.K.'d by the Engineer. This cut was allowed by the Council.
<br /> 1

<br /> The reports of the Public Libra~y, Sewerage Charges, Engineer, Poli ce Matron,
<br /> Police and Fire Departments were read and ordered placed on file.
<br /> The Recorder reported that the Eugene Shingle Mill had not yet sent in their
<br /> $100.00 for Fire protection which had been due since June 30th, but stated Mr. Foss,
<br /> manager of the company said he would have the money in a day or two.
