Mr. Merriam pointed out that the local Defense Council : could order this equipment to go outside the City to fight fires, but that it was I' supposed to be manned by O.C.D. fire volunteers. The following resolut,ion was read I: and on motion made;; seconded, and carried the resolution was adopted. :1 RES 0 L UTI 0 N - ~ ---------- 6 1:: WErEREAS, the Office of Ci"\lilian Defense of the United States Government has I: indicated their willingness to consider an application by the City of Eugene for the Ii allocation to the City of certain equipment as follows: I, :, 10 gas masks l 10 helmets-Firemen's ~ 10 coats-Firemen's turnout Ii 10 pants-Firemen's (pairs) ! 1 Trailer pump it Skid mounted pumps-no allocation :' 1 front mount pump ~ 10 Firemen's boots, if available !, and,.' 'I': WHEREAS the Common Council of the City of Eugene desires to make the applicatio , and to comply with the requirements of the Office of Civ.Uian Defense, r IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED tha t the Mayor and City Recorder of the City of Eugene I: be and they are hereby required to sign too t certain certificate and agreement for ji Mutual Aid Allocation upon Form OCD No. 50l-Budget Bureau No. 02-R007-42 Approval I: Expires 12-31-43, which certificate and agreement is dated June 21, 1943, and the I; Mayor of the City of Eugene be and he is hereby authorized to sign the acceptance I I: and agreement of Local Property Officer as shown on the back of said Form. i: Be It Further Resolved that W. E. Nusbaum, Chief of the Fire Department of ~ the City of Eugene, be and he is hereby authorized to sign that certain "Official ;!Bond of Property Officers Under the Regulations of the United States Office of ~ Civilian Defense" upon form OCD No. 502 and to accept the same in accordance with I. its tenor, and, :: It Is Further Resolved that upon the execution of said papers that the City :i Recorder be and he is hereby authorized to dmliver them to the OeD at Washington, DC. II 'i i: Councilman Brownson reporting for the Heal th Committee, stated he had a I; complaint regarding a lean-to wood shed at the N. E. Corner of 16th and Pearl :i Streets and tha t he was asking that an investigation be made by th e Fire and i.! Police Chiefs and report back at the next Council meeting. ~ . '.: CounCilman Barette reporting for the Parks said he had some complaints re- f! garding tree limbs over the sidewalk but that no tree trimming would be done at i'l thi s time. ::! :] Mayor Large reported he had comp.paints about low awnings on Willamette Street ff and the Building Inspector was instructed to investigate this si tua tion and report It to the Council at the next meeting. i': Ii' S- [] The Sewer Committee had no report. I, !i Councilman Hawn said that he had talked with Mr. Bagan, manager of the employ- Ilment office, and stated Mr. Bagan was willing that a bicycle rack be placed on 'l the si dewalk in front of the employment office and that he was going to suggest Ii to Miss Hendricks that the Library place a sign stating "No Bicycle parking allowed l:lon Library Property." A motion was made, seconded, and carried that a bicycle rack it be installed on the sidewalk in front of the Employment Agency at 1133 Willamette. n . .i.~ 't~( 1.1 At this time Chief Bergman siad that he and Mr. Lewis had been out and had i:i agreed in placing the show referred to earlier in the meeting on Park Street just I I.: back of the U. S. National Bank Building and that Mr. Lewis wanted to be sure he I; could have this location in three or four weeks instead of at the present time. II The Council indicated it was up to Chief Bergman to make the decision. /i The yearly report of the Police Matron was read at this time and ordered .1 placed on file.
