<br /> Councilman Stewart reporting for the Fire and Water Committee stated he
<br /> i had no report tb make except he would ask the Recorder to read a proposal made
<br /> I
<br /> I by Chief Nusbaum of the Fire Department regarding the working of the present
<br /> ,
<br />16: Fire employees on their extra days off and paYcing them at their regular salary
<br /> for the extra time. The proposal was read and Councilman Hawn stated that he
<br /> , was in favor of the proposal but wanted to ask'the City Attorney if the City
<br /> could be held for time and a half for overtime, 'double time for Sundays and
<br /> I Holidays and for penalty for not having made these payments. Attorney Calkins
<br /> ! stated that without further study Of the ~egulatiohs he felt sure that the
<br /> ~..'
<br /> : City would be liable for not paying more than the regular wage for the over-
<br /> : time. After some discussion the matter was left in the hands of the Fire &
<br /> I Water committee to report back at the next Council meeting.

<br /> Councilman Barette reported he had no report regarding the Park but there
<br />17; was a request 'by the Daughters of Union Veterans 'of the Civil War to erect a
<br /> rest-room for enlisted men at the corner of 6th and Charne~ton Streets between
<br /> the sidewalk and the curb. He stated there would be no seats in 'thfs room
<br /> and it-would only be a place for service men to pick up rides.
<br /> , Councilman Barette ,also stated that Mr. Keating of Keatingps Market on
<br /> I 13th and Willamette Streets wished to string a wire from his store to his
<br /> ,
<br /> ; home for a private communication system from ttie store to his home; Mr.
<br />18 Barette also explained that there were already one or two of these in use in
<br /> I Eugene but that Mr. Keating would have to cross the street with the wires and
<br /> ,I
<br /> this brought some discussion from the Gouncil. Attorney Calkins stated that
<br /> the stringing of wires 'over the street for c'ommunication purposes might require
<br /> a Franchise. This matter was left in the hands of the Park Committee and the
<br /> : Judiciary Committee to report back at the next 'Council meeting.

<br /> : A request from the Medo-Land Oreamery Company for afutther curb-cut at
<br />their Charnel ton Street addre'ss was read. A statement was madell1y the City Engineer
<br />Clubb that together with the curb-cuts already granted, .this requested cut would make
<br />a ftotal of 57 feet. After some discussion by the Council a motion was made, by:; ~ ~.,;)
<br />20j Barette and seconded by Farrington and carried that the request for the curb-
<br /> I cut be denied.
