<br />The Recorder reported receipt of $300.00 from the Oregon Motor Stages
<br />as franchise tax for the year 1944.

<br />A refund of $5.00 to Jack Nashholm on abcount of double payment for 3
<br />skating rink license was granted by the Council.

<br />A letter from T. J. Williams, 174 north Van Buren Street in regard to
<br />ppor conditions of the street and asking that the street be garveled was read.
<br />This is an unimproved street and there is nothing that the city can do to
<br />releive the situation.

<br />A letter from the Hotel Eugene Inc., asking for a franchise for the
<br />maintenance of a sign at the intersection of Broadway and Pearl Street was read
<br />at this time. An ordinance granting a franchise' to the Eugene Rotel Inc., had
<br />its first reading at this time and was laid over, in the draft of the ordinance
<br />the charge to be made was left vacant and after some discussion by the Council
<br />the sum of $10.00 per month was ordered inserted in the Ordinance.

<br />A letter from Florence D. Alden regarding a clogged sewer at 1282 east
<br />18th street on January 7th and asking a refund from the City for a bill in the
<br />sum of $16.00 was read ,at this time. Also a bill of the Chase Plumbing Co. from
<br />Miss Pauline Walton for a clogged sewer at 433 east Broadway in the sum of $64.65
<br />was read at this time. Both of these bills were referred to the Sewer Committee
<br />to report back at the next Council meeting.

<br />Bids for the Grading and Gravelling of t~e alley between Pearl and High
<br />streets frow 16th to 17th street had been called for to be opened at this meeting.
<br />There were no bids presented and no further action was taken by the Council.
