Electors was read the first time and laid over. <br />'1 <br />I <br />,[ ~ermission was given the Recorder to refund the LOn~'s Grocery $1.00 <br />30 on account of buying license for tobacco the second time. <br />I <br />I An Ordinance levying assessments for the sidewalk on the South side of <br />I west Broadway between Polk and Tyler street was read the first time and passed <br />31: to its second and third readings b~ unanimous consent of the Council by title <br />! under suspension of the rules and was paaced for final passage. All Council- <br />I men present voting AYE, ahsent Wiper. The Ordinance was declared passed and <br />i numbered 8799 · <br /> <br />i At this time bids for a Street Sweeper were opened. A bmd from the <br />'I ColU{t,lbia Equipment Company for an Aust~n Western Patrol Sweeper at a cost of <br />: $4250.00 with an additional charge of $100.00 for broom filling machine to <br />: fill rear broom, and another additional charge of $125.00 for leaf rake to <br />3211 work on front of sweeper and another' additional charge of $250.00 for an <br />en,closed babe \, <br /> <br />A bid from the Heward Cooper Company for an Elgin Jr. Sweeper at a <br />cost of $7,000.00 with an additional charge of $95.00 for broom filling machine <br />These bids were referred to the ,street Department for consideration, to report <br />back at the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />At this time Councilman Farrington stated the request for a new car <br />.! for the Police Matron." hadheen elimina.ted from the Budget;- that she was still I <br />i using the ,-old car and had used 33i gallons of gas for the month of June. He <br />! stated that the Police Matron was using this car to go and, come from work and <br />33: that no other City employee had this privilege and that he did not beleive she <br />was in need of a car. That the Police Department could take care of her in <br />I cases where it was necessary for her to use a car. A motion was made by Mr. <br />: Farrington that the use of this car be discontinued by the Police Matron and <br />i put to whatever use the Police might use or be sold. This motion was seconded <br />I by Crumbaker. Councilman Hawn stated that he was not certain what use the <br />! Police Matron had for a car and that it was agreeable with him if the Council <br />wished to take this action. Chief Bergman was asked by Councilman Hawn whether <br />the Police Matron need this car and the Chief reported that her inspection work <br />was only 3 or 4 blocks from the City Hall. 'Councilman Hawn stated that if the <br />Council would like, he and the Chief of Police would discuss the matter with <br />the Police Matron. The motion was withdrawn by both Councilman Farrington and <br />Mr. Crumbaker and Mr. Hawn and the Chief of Police were instructed to meet <br />with the Police Matron and bring in a report at the next m~eting. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington stated that the Health Committee had been with- <br />out a Chairman for quite some time and he felt that something should be done <br />to provide a chairman. He inquired regarding the condition of Mr. Wiper and <br />34 asked if he was not going to be able to come back, if some other arrangement <br />. could be made at an early date.
