L. Strickland regarding his appointment <br />! as E.l.ectrical Inspector was read. The question was raised as to why Mr. Strick- <br />211! land was resigning and Mayor Large asked the Recorder to read a protest Signed <br />(I by 14 local Electrical Contractors protesting the 'hiring, of Mr. Strickland. <br />[',. The protest was read _and Councilman Hawn stated he fet the requirements mentioned <br />I' were reasonable. Councilman Davis and Crumbaker inquired why it was necessary <br />r1 tha t the Electrical dealers should be contacted when an appointment was being <br />[I made by the City and Mayor Large. explained that there was no reason why it was <br />:: necessary, but .that the electrical dealers cO,yt.ld make it so hard that it would <br />I; be impossible to make a s.ucess o+' the job. A motion was made. by ,Davis and sec- <br />I: onded by Barette that the resignation of Mr. Strickland be accepted. On vote <br />~ this motion was carried. <br />, <br /> <br />!1 A letter from the Obsidians stated that they had bought a lGt from the <br />If: City and had understood encroachments by -the Amazon would not be much over 10 <br />~ fe~t and they could not accept the deed for the lot with the provision that <br />2~: had been. inserted. The FinAnce- Committee explained that this matter had been <br />l'i'~ talked over at the time of offer and that. they felt nothing more. could be done <br />! in regards to this matter. A motion was' made by Farrington and seconded by <br />II Crumbake~ that the Obsidians be allowed to choose another lot and-apply the <br />11 purchase price on the new lot or they could be refunded their money on this lot, <br />Ii except any expenses that, the Coty might have been to. Stanley requesting he be allowed to erect his <br />I'i building at the northwest corner of 13th and Oak street on the 7 foot set-bacl <br />I: on the corner of 13th side. The letter stated that he would construct the build... <br />23 Ii ing with cold joimts at this 7 foot strip and if and when 13th street is widened, <br />I;~ they will vac'a te . the 7 feet and remodel the puilding to cop,form to the Ordinance <br />:: at no cost to the City. A motion was made by Barette and seconded by Far;rington <br />\.1' that .this request b.e granted and that the City Attorney be instructed to draw <br />;, up the necessary contradt.. On vote this motion was carried. <br /> <br />Ii The Mayor and Recorder were authorized to sign the 1944-45 contract with <br />24 ~ the River Raod Fire District which had already been signed by the Fire District. <br /> <br />Ii The Recorder explained'th~t the Rural Fire District #1 (College Crest) <br />I had reported that Joseph Muir was out of town and the contract had not been <br />Ii returned to the City. The Recorder was instructed to furnish the district <br />25 ,t with a nontra.ct and advise them if the contract was not signed by the proper <br />" officials and returned to the City by the end of July, fire protection would <br />~ be discont{nued as of July 31st. <br />[i <br />J $ <br />:' The Recorder also reported that, 3 mills that had not paid the 100.00 <br />:; initial payment that was due on July 1st for the year 1944-45. The Recorder <br />26 II was instructed to contact these mills at the middle of the month, stating that <br />:,: services would be discontinued as of July 31st unless payment had been received. <br />I. <br />I <br /> <br />It; An Ordinance res~ricting the use of the Public Parks and prohibiting the <br />1:1 use of the parks after 10 :00 oclock p.m. There was some discussion regarding <br />27 i'i the time of closing and it was suggested that exception should. be made regarding <br />,: the cottage back of Skinner's Butte. A motion was made by Barette and seconded <br />i: by Crumbaker that the ordinance should be amended to read that with a written <br />!; permit from the Park Superintendant the cottage back of Skinner's Butte could <br />1,1 be used later than 10:00 oclock. On roll call all Councilmen voting AYE, exa:pt <br />II Hawn, voting NO; Absent Wiper. illhe ordinance was passed to its second and , <br />II third readings by unanimous consent of' the Counc.il by title under suspension <br />II'; of the rules and was placed for final passag~..
