REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS A report of the Board of Appeals was, submitted and read as follows: "A meeting of' the Board of Appeals was held in the office of the-City Engineer, Monday, March 24th at 5:00 P.M. A request was received from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company asking for a waiwer of the requirement for the installation of a Sprinkler System in the basement of the proposed addition to their building at the southeast corner of the intersection of Tenth and Oak Streets. I " . I I; , I The building is to be constructed of fire-protected steei and re- inforced concrete throughout and is a fire proof building. "Due to the necessity of arranging telephone equipment in a standard manner the.telephone power equipment, ringing machines, batteries and emergency power plant are located in the basement of the Eugene Telephone BUilding, and in our opinion it would be quite hazardous to telephone service to have a aprinkler service installed near this equipment." ' i The Board, considering the type of construction, the fact that the ~ Telephone Co. is a pioneer in safety measures, and the unliklihood of the building ,; I ever being used for any other occupancy, is recommending that the request be i: granted." ~ i'~ It was m~ved by Crumbaker, seconded' by Hawn that the report of the Board 00, I' Appeals be received and placed on file and that the recommendations contained I: - therein be adopted.
