Allen and Pennington absent. <br /> <br />REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br />A report of the Board of Appeals was, submitted and read as follows: <br /> <br />"A meeting of' the Board of Appeals was held in the office of the-City <br />Engineer, Monday, March 24th at 5:00 P.M. <br /> <br />A request was received from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company <br />asking for a waiwer of the requirement for the installation of a Sprinkler System <br />in the basement of the proposed addition to their building at the southeast corner <br />of the intersection of Tenth and Oak Streets. <br /> <br />I <br />" <br />. <br />I <br />I; <br />, <br />I <br /> <br />The building is to be constructed of fire-protected steei and re- <br />inforced concrete throughout and is a fire proof building. <br /> <br />"Due to the necessity of arranging telephone equipment in a standard <br />manner the.telephone power equipment, ringing machines, batteries and emergency <br />power plant are located in the basement of the Eugene Telephone BUilding, and <br />in our opinion it would be quite hazardous to telephone service to have a aprinkler <br />service installed near this equipment." ' <br /> <br />i The Board, considering the type of construction, the fact that the <br />~ Telephone Co. is a pioneer in safety measures, and the unliklihood of the building <br />,; <br />I ever being used for any other occupancy, is recommending that the request be <br />i: granted." ~ <br /> <br />i'~ It was m~ved by Crumbaker, seconded' by Hawn that the report of the Board 00, <br />I' Appeals be received and placed on file and that the recommendations contained <br />I: - therein be adopted.
