5? -- - - -- - -- -- -~ From the facts presented by Dr. Helterline, City Meat and Milk Inspector, and I the Dairy representatives, taking into account the most favorable action that could be granted by the State Milk Control Board, it appears that it will be physically t:.", improssible to supply enough Grade "A" milk by January 1, 1948 to meet the city's :""1 demand for fresh milk. We are advised however, that definite progress is being -,' .. made in increasing Grade "A" production and that it is believed by the industry's ~.... -" representatives that the increased production is steadily gaining and that it will meet the demand after May 1, 1948. The Board, fully aware of its responsibility of guarding the health of the I community, is reluctant to make any further extension of the relaxation of the Grade "A" standard, but it feels that it has no alternative in this situation. The fact that all milk sold in Eugene is required to be pasteurized will assure the safety of the milk supply as pasteurization temperatures will destroy disease producing bacteria. The recommendation of the Board therefor is that the en- forcement of the ordinance provision pertaining to the Grade "A" standard be further postponed until May 1, 1948." It was moved by Bailey, seconded by Davis that the report of Dr. Triolo be received and placed on file and that the recommendation contained therein be approved. Motion carried. PETITIONS AND CO!~ICATIONS Various applications for rezoning were submitted as follows: 15 Mrs. George Marlow, 1898 West 12th Avenue from R-l (single family) to R-3 (multiple family) classification. 16 Mrs. Cora I. Pirtle, 1648 and 1648i East 24th Avenue and 2410 Cherry Grove Street, from R-l (single family)to R-2 (apartmept-any size) classification. (Remonstrance submitted also.) 17 Mrs. Earl J. Vaughn, Southeast corner of 27th and Hilyard from R-l (single family) to B-2 (Limited Business) classification. I 18 Francis A. Bernard, 459 East 19th Avenue from R-3 (multiple family-up to 4 apts.) to B-2 (Limited Business) classification. 19 W. E. Maxley - N. E. corne r, intersection East 14th and Beech Streets from Single Family to multiple family classification. ~ 20 Tex Riddle - 1610 Jefferson St. from R-l (single family) to B-2 (Limited Business) classification. It was moved by Davis, seconded by Crumbaker that the applications be transmitted by necessary resolution to the Planning Commission. Motion c~rried. An application for Retail Beer License, Class "B" was submitted. (Transfer from 21 Clarence K. Beeson and Tommie Thomas to Meryle McCready, Ben Snyder and L. E. Winn) Address: 89 West 8th Avenue. It was moved by Davis, seconded by Wells that the application as approved by the Chief of Police be endorsed. Motion carried. 22 A petition signed by W. B. Scott, 1163 West Broadway and 6 others requesting the Council to initiate an opening procedure for the opening of the alley running East and West between Van Buren and Taylor and between West Broadway and Eighth Avenue West, was submitted. I It was moved by Bailey, seconded by Wells that the petition be received and placed on file and that the matter be referred to the Public Works Committee for further investigation and report back to the Council on October 27th with recommendations. It was further moved by Bailey, seconded by Johnson that the Manager seek to obtain if possible a joint meeting with the Planning Commission with reference to the pro- posed opening of the alley between West Broadway and 8th Avenue West and the pro- posed opening of 24th Avenue East prior to the next regular meeting of the Common Council. I A petition signed by F. R. Reid and James H. Baker opposing the opening of the 23 alley running East and West between Van Buren and Taylor and between West Broadway and Eighth Avenue West, was submitted. It was moved by Bailey, seconded by Johnson that the petition be received and placed on file. ..~
