CHIEf" OF POLICE. - RE: STOP SIGNS AT 22ND
AND ALDER STREETS, AND RECOMMENDED ITS ADOPTION.

"PLEASE FIND ATTACHED f"IVE. LETTERS CONTAINING RECOMMENDAT.IONS IN REQUEST FOR SOME SORT
Of" CONTROL AT THE INTERSECTION Of" 22ND AND ALDER STREETS. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REQUESTS
PRIOR TO THIS, BUT DUE TO THE LIGHT f"LOW OF TRAFf"IC AND MOVEMENT OF PEDESTRIANS AT THIS INTER-
SECTION IT WAS NOT f"ELT ADVISABLE TO PLACE STOP SIGNS PRIOR TO THIS TIME, BUT DUE TO THE IN-
CREASED TRAFFIC AND THE INCREASED SPEED OF' TRAf"f"IC ON ALDER STREET, ALSO THE SEVERITY Of" THE
ACCIDENTS AT THIS INTERSECTION, IT IS NOW f"ELT BY THIS DEPARTMENT THAT PERHAPS STOP SIGNS ARE
ADVISABLE. DUE TO THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLES NORTH AND SOUTH ON ALDERSTREET. AND THE f"ACT'
THAT ALDER IS A VERY NARROW STREET, BEING ONLY 24 FEET WIDE, IT IS RECOMMENDED BY THIS
DEPARTMENT THAT STOP SIGNS BE PLACED AT 22ND STREET. WHICH WOULD TEND TO SLOW DOWN TRAFf"IC
ON ALDER STREET.

I

I

DURING 1948 THERE WERE SEVEN ACCIDENTS AND ONE INJURY AT THIS INTERSECTION. To DATE IN
1949 THERE HAVE BEEN THREE ACCIDENTS AND TWO INJURIES. ALSO TO FACILITATE THE MOVEMENT Of"
TRAf"FIC IN THE SOUTHEAST SECTION OF THE CITY WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THAT HILYARD STREET
BE MADE A THROUGH STREET FROM 19TH AVENUE TO THE SOUTH CITY liMITS."

IT WAS MOVED BY BOOTH, SECONDED BY CRUMBAKER THAT THE REPORT BE ADOPTED. MOTION CARR~Eb.

7 THE FINANCE Of"f"ICER READ THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF' THE CHIEf" OF POLICE - RE: PETITIONS PRE-
V.OUS~l RECEIVED FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL LIGHTS AT 11TH AND CHAMBERS AND 11TH AND MONROE, AND RECOMMENDED'
THAT IT BE REFERRED TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE FOR REPORT.

~
