A STEAM <br />LINE ACROSS THE ALLEY BETWEEN 5TH AVENUE AND 6TH AVENUE FROM THE LANE COOPERATIVE <br />WAREHOUSE TO THE EUGENE FARMERS CREAMERY WAS REVIEWED. <br /> <br />IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE COMMITTEE THAT PERMISSION BE GRANTED BY THE CI TY <br />COUNCIL FOR THE LANE COOPERATIVE WAREHOUSE TO INSTALL A ONE INCH STEAM'LINE ACROSS <br />THE ALLEY AS STIPULATED PROVIDED THAT IT WAS PROPERLY AND SAFELY SUSPENDED 20-FEET <br />ABOVE GROUND LEVEL SO JHAT IT WOULD PRESENT NO HAZARD WHATSOEVER, AND ALSO THAT IT <br />WOULD BE PROPERLY, INSULATED. I TWAS <br />AGREED THAT THE PREVIOUS STUDY RESULTING IN THIS TYPE 'OF MODERN LIGHTI NG FOR ARTERIAL <br />, , <br />STREETS WITHIN THE CITY OF EUGENE WAS SATISFACTORY; THAT THE RESULTS ACCOMPLISHED ON <br />FRA~KLIN BOULEVARD JUSTIFIED CONTINUED USE OF THE SAME TYPE OF EQUIPMENT AND SPECIFI- <br />CATIONS FOR THE PACIFIC HIGHWAY THROUGH THE CITY OF EUGENE CONSTITUTING WEST 6TH AND <br />WEST 7TH AVENUES FROM HIGH STREET TO THE WEST CITY LIMITS. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I, <br />'I <br />I, <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />II <br />II <br />Ii <br />,I <br /> <br />MERLE BAILEY PRES~NTED A PRELIMINARY PLAN FOR THIS TYPE,OF LIGHTING,PROJECT FOR <br />WEST 6TH AND WEST 7TH AVENUE WHICH WOULD CONSIST OF A STAGGERED SYSTEM OF LIGHTS. UNDER <br />,THIS SYSTEM THERE WOULD BE TWO MERCURY VAPOR LIGHTS AT EACH INTERSECTION AND TWO <br />STAGGERED WI THIN THE BLOCK.' IT ,WAS RECOMMENDED THAT WOODEN ~OLES AND OVERHEAD WIRING <br />BE UTILIZED ON THIS PROJECT EXCEPT FOR THAT AREA BETWEEN PEARL AND CHARNELTON STREET <br />, . <br />IN THE MORE CONGES~ED BUSI NESS DISTRICT~ IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT IN THIS AREA BETWEEN <br />PEARL AND CHARNELTON STREET, STEEL POLES BE UTILIZED WITH AN UNDERGROUND CABLE SYSTEM. <br />THIS RECOMMENDATION WAS MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PREVIOUS STUDIES OF WESTI NGHOUSE <br />ENGINEERS AND GENERAL ELECTRIC.ENGINEERS WHO RECOMMENDED STEEL ORNAMENTAL LIGHTING <br />BETWEEN PEARL AND CHARNELTON AND 5TH AND 11TH AVENUE AND WILLAMETTE STREET FROM 11TH <br />TO 13TH AVE NUE. <br /> <br />THE PROBLEM OF HEAVY TREE GROWTH AND LOW LIMBS ON WEST 6TH AND 7TH AVENUES WAS <br />DISCUSSED. IT WAS RECOMMENDED T~AT FURTHER STUDY BE MAD~ TO ASCERTAIN IF THESE TREES <br />COULD BE TRIMMED TO A HEIGHT SUFFICIENT TO INSURE UNHAMPERED DISTRIBUTION OF THE LIGHT <br />UPON THE .STREET AS- WELL AS PROVI DE SAFETY FOR THE OVERHEAD WI RES. . IT 1 S HOPED THAT <br />THIS CAN BE DONE WITHOUT MARRING THE BEAUTY OF THE TREES IN THIS AREA. <br /> <br />i <br />j <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />II <br />:1 <br /> <br />THE ABOVE PROJECT WOULD CONSI ST OF 162 WOODEN, POLES, AND 32 ORNAMENTAL STEEL POLES. <br />THE WOODEN POLES WILL BE 30-FEET IN HEIGHT AND THE STEEL' POLES 32-FEET IN HEIGHT. <br />PRELIMINARY ESTIMATED COSTS OF THE ENTIRE PROJECT UNDER THIS PLAN WERE SET AT $57,780 <br />INCLUDING $15,117 FOR THE ORNAMENTAL STEEL POLES THROUGH THE BUSINESS SECTION. AVAIL- <br />ABILITY OF MATER~ALS WAS DISCUSSED AND IT WAS STATED THAT THE EUGENE WATER & ELECTRIC <br />BOARD COULD PROBABLY PROCURE THE MATERIALS UNDER THEIR ALLOTMENT AUTHORIZATION. <br />. , , <br /> <br />FINANC!NG OF THE PROJECT WAS STUDIED WITH THE RECOM~ENDATION ,THAJ THIS ADDITIONAL <br />CONTI NUE,D STREET LIGHTING; BE INSTALLED AND FINAN',CED BY THE EUGENE WATER,& ELECTRIC <br />BOARD AND THAT THE CITY OF EUGENE AMORTIZE THE COSTS OVER A PERIOD OF 25 YEARS UNDER <br />THE SAME PLAN AS WAS ADOPTED FOR FRANKLIN BOULEVARD STREET LIGHTING. <br /> <br />I~ WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY MANAGER WRITE THE STATE,HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT <br />SEEKING THEIR COOPERATION IN CARRYING THIS LIGHTING PROJECT ON THE PACIFIC HIGHWAi <br />FROM THE,WES!
