MR. WARD AND MR. RI CHARDSON WHO OWN AND OPERATE WARDS MACHI NE SHOP AT THE SOUTH
END OF PIERCE STREET BETWE~N 6TH AND 7TH AVENUES WERE CONTACTED ON MAY 22ND~ RELAJIVE
TO THE ACQUISITION OF RIGHT OF WAY FOR THE OPENING OF PIERCE STREET. MR. RICHARDSON
OWNS THE PROPERTY AND MR. WARD IS 'PURCHASING THE PROPERTY UNDER CONTRACT. MR. RICHARDSON
SHOWED HIS WARRANTY DEED DA'TED APRIL 17,1940 FROM LOUIS AND MRS.'L. R. M LLER TO MR.
AND MRS. RICHARDSON AND RECO~DED APRIL 20, 1940 IN BOOK 202, PAGE 506 OF LAN~ COUNTY
DEED RECORDS FOR THE NORTH 160 FE~T OF THE PROPOSED PIERCE STREET.

MR~' RICHARDSON AND MR. WARD BOTH OBJECT VERY STRENUOUSLY TO THE OPENING OF THIS
STREET, STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE INTERESTED IN SELL1NG THEIR PROPERTY AS THEY
HAVE ESTABLISHED THEIR BUSINESS THERE AND IT WOULD CAUSE A GREAT DEAL OF HARDSHIP TO
MOVE THE BUSINESS AT THIS TIME. THEY WOULD STIPULATE NO PRICE WHATSOEVER FOR THE SALE
OF THIS PROPERTY. MR. MANLEY WHO OWNS 160 FEET ON THE WEST SIDE OF PIERCE STREET
BETWEEN 6TH AND 7TH,AvENUE WAS ALSO THERE AND OBJECTED VERY SERIOUSLY TO THE IMPROVE-
MENT OF THIS STREET STATING HE COULD NOT AFFORD THE ASSESSMENTS ON HIS PROPERTY.

IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL BE VERy DIFFICULT AND VERy COSTLY TO OBTAIN THIS RIGHT OF
WAY FOR THE OPENING or PIERCE STREET BETWEEN 5TH AND 7TH AVENUE AT THIS TIME.

2. WITH FURTHER REFERENCE TO THE PURCHASE OF THE J. V. THOMPSON PROPERTy IN CONNECTION
WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AMAZON AREA, A REVIEW OF THE APPRAISALS HAS BEEN MADE AND IT
I S PLANNED TO HAVE A MEETI NG WI TH MR. THOMPSON I N THE NEAR FUTURE. IF THAT PORTION OF
THE THOMPSON PROPERTY LYING EAST, or THE AMAZON WAS DEVELOPED FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSES IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE ZONING ORDINANCE, IT WOULD NECESSITATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BRIDGE.
AN OPINION FROM THE COUNCIL IS DESIRED RELATIVE TO THE TYPE OF THE BRIDGE, WHO WOULD
CONSTRUCT THE BRIDGE, AND MAINTAIN IT.

3.
