REQUEST OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY FOR RENEWAL OF fRANCHISE FOR SPUR TRACK AT 5TH <br />AND HIGH STREET - THE REQUEST OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY FOR RENEWAL or THIS FRANCHISE <br />WAS RE-READ AND DISCUSSED. THE COMMITTEE COULD SEE NO REASON WHY THE FRANCHISE FOR THE <br />SPUR WHICH SERVES SWIFT AND COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE RENEWED, PROVIDING THAT ADEQUATE PRO- <br />VISIONS ARE MADE FOR THE STREET MAINTENANCE AT THE CROSSING OF HIGH STREET AT THE EXPENSE <br />I <br />OF THE PETITIONER AND ENFORCED BY THE CITY. THE QUESTION WAS RAISED REGARDING THE STANDARD <br />OF STREET MAINTENANCE WHERE THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC TRACKS, INCLUDING THE TWO SPURS AND THE <br />MAl N LI NE, CROSS HI GH STREET AT 5TH AVENUE. THI S MAl NTENANCE, I T WAS NOTED, I S THE <br />RESPONSIBILITY Of THE SOUTHERN PACifiC COMPANY. <br /> <br />IT IS THE RECOMMENDA~ION OF THE COMMITTEE THAT THE FRANCHISE BE RENEWED AS REQUESTED., <br />IT IS ALSO THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE COMMITTEE THAT STEPS BE TAKEN TO IMPROVE THE STANDARD <br />Of MAINTENANCE ON HIGH STREET WHERE THE TRACKS CROSS. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />2. SUGGESTED ORDINANCE RELATING TO ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR - A DRAFT OF AN ORDINANCf RELATING <br />TO ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR WAS PRESENTED BY THE CITY MANAGER FOR CONSIDERATION. IT WAS EXPLAINED <br />BY THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY THAT THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE WAS DRAFTED BY THE <br />ATTORNEYS OF THE LEAGUE or OREGON CITIES IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY ATTORNEY TO INCLUDE <br />SPECIFIC ACTS PERTAINING TO USE OF LIQUOR SO THAT THERE WOULD BE NO QUESTION OF THE JURIS- <br />DICTION Of THE MUNICIPAL COURT OVER orFENSES PERTAINING TO LIQUOR.
