IT SEEMS THAT THE WEST END AUCTION MART <br />HOLDS AN AUCTION EACH SATURDAY, AND SINCE THE MART IS SITUATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF <br />THE STREET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOCK, THE STREET HAS PARKED CARS ON IT ON BOTH SIDES <br />OF THE STREET., THE NORTH SIDE OF THE STREET IN THE EASTERLY HALF OF THE BLOCK IS <br />GRANT PARK, THE WESTERN HALF IS A VACANT LOT. THE STREET ITSELF IS'OF PENETRATION <br />MACADAM, 16 FEET IN WIDTH, WITH TWO FOOT SHOULDERS AND NO CURBS. A 2-1/2 FOOT DITCH <br />RUNS ALONG JHE NORTH SIDE. WITH CARS'PARKED ON BOTH SIDES, TRAVEL ON THE STREET,IS <br />RESTRICTED TO ONE DIRECTION. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS CALLED UPON EACH SATURDAY TO <br />UNTANGLE THE SITUATION. <br /> <br />IT IS THE RECOMMENDAT10N OF THE CITY MANAGER THAT PARKING BE PROHIBITED ALONG <br />THE NORTH SIDE OF THE STREET FOR THE BLOCK BETWEE~ GRANT AND HAYES STREETS. 'THIS <br />WILL ENABLE THE CITY TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF LAW WHICH ARE THAT. 16 FEET OF <br />UNOBSTRUCTED PAVEMENT BE LEFT OPPOSITE PARKED VEHICLES. AT ,THE SAME TIME, IT <br />ELIMINATES THE POSSIBILITY OF CHILDREN COMING OUT OF THE PARK AND RUNNING BETWEEN <br />THE PARKED CARS. <br /> <br />IT lS THE RECOMMENDATION.OF THE COMMITTEE THAT THIS RESTRICTION BE APPROVED. <br /> <br />D. PARKING ON 4TH AVENUE WEST - IT WAS EXPLAINED BY THE CITY MANAGER THAT 4TH <br />AVENUE WEST BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND LINCOLN STREETS SERVES NUMEROUS WAREHOUSES AND <br />TRUCK TERMINALS, THE MAJORITY OF WHICH ARE NORTH Of 4TH AVENUE. THE PROBLEM HERE <br />IS THAT If ANY TRUCKS ARE PARKED ON ONE SIDE OF THE STREET ON 4TH, AND ANOTHER <br />VEHICLE IS PARKED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET,.THEN MOVING TRAFFIC IS RESTRICTED <br />TO ONE DIRECTION. IT WAS EXPLAINED FURTHER THAT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED <br />IN THE PAST MONTHS IN REGARD TO THIS CONDITION. FOURTH AVENUE IS 30 FEET WIDE AND <br />RESIDENCES PREDOMINATE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STREET. <br /> <br />IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE CITY MANAGER THAT PARKING BE PROHIBITED ON THE NORTH <br />SIDE OF 4TH AVENUE fROM A POINT 60 FEET WEST OF ITS INTERSECTION WITH THE WEST LINE <br />~or LINCOLN STREET WEST TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH THE EAST LINE OF WASHINGTON STREET. <br />THIS WOULD LEAVE 35 FEET IN FRONT Of THE OREGON SUPPLY COMPANY WHIC~ HAS NO OTHER <br />AREA WHERE. CUSTOMERS CAN PARK. BY KEEPING THE PARKING OFF THE NORTH SIDE TRUCKS WILL <br />HAVE A 'BETTER AND SAFER MOVEMENT IN AND OUT OF DRIVEWAYS TO THE TERMINALS. <br /> <br />IT IS THE.RECOMMENDATION OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE THAT THE CITY MANAGER'S <br />OFFICE CONTACT THE TRUCKING CONCERNS AND REQUEST THAT THEY REFRAIN FROM PARKING TRUCKS <br />ON 4TH AVENUE BETWEEN THESE STREETS. <br /> <br />E. REQUEST FOR PARKING ZONE AT 1260 HILYARD STREET - A REQUEST HAS BEEN RECEIVED <br />FROM THE TONE REAL ESTATE COMPANY, 1260 HILYARD STREET FOR SOME ACTION TO PREVENT ALL <br />DAY PARKING IN FRONT OF THEIR PLACE OF BUSINESS AT THIS LOCATION. THE OFFICE IS <br />SITUATED ON THE WEST SIDE OF HILYARD JUST SOUTH OF THE ALLEy BETWEEN 12TH AND 13TH <br />AVENUES.
