HOLES AND, IN THE DISCUSSION, HEARD THE DI-, . <br />RECTOR .Of PUBLIC WORKS STATE THAT MAINTENANCE OF THE STREET: IS ,BECOMING EXTREMELY <br />DIFFICULT AND THAT THERE ~s LITTLE THAT C~N BE DONE TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN THE <br />STREET AS IT PRESENTLY EXISTS. CONSIDERATION Of THE PAVING; Of MADISON STREET fROM 6TH TO 8TH AVENUE - THE COM- <br />MITTEE AGAIN DISCUSSED THE POSSIBILITY OF PAVING MADISON STREET fROM 6TH TO <br />8TH AVENUE SINCE THIS STREET IS ALSO ~N.A ~OORSTATEOF REPAIR AND EXTREMELY <br />DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN. WITH RESPECT TO THIS, IT WAS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT THE <br />OWNERS Of PROPERTY WHICH WILL BE AfFECTED BE CONTACTED REGARDING THE POSSIBILITY <br />OF PAVING MADISON STREET FROM 6TH TO 8TH AVENUE. <br /> <br />4. REQUEST FROM PERCY D~ BENTLEY, ARCHITECT, FOR PERMISSION TO USE .AREA UNDER THE <br />SIDEWALKS AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER Of BROADWAY AND OLIVE STREET fOR BASEMENT <br />PARK I NG - IT WAS EXPLA I.NED THAT AT THE 'SOUTHWEST CORNER OF BROADWAY ANDOU VE <br />STREET THERE IS VACANT PROPERTY 80XI60 fEET ON WHICH IT I,S PROPOSED TO ERECT A <br />NEW BUILDING, AND THAT MR. BENTLEY AS ARCHI'TECT fOR THE BUILDING REQUESTED THE <br />BUILDER BE ALLOWED.TOEXTEND THE BASEMENT UNDER THE SIDEWALKS Of BOTH STREETS <br />FOR BASEMENT PARKING. THIS EXTRA AREA UNDER THE SIDEWALKS WOULD. ALLOW PARKING <br />tOR A TOTAL OF 26 CARS. THE COMMITTEE DISCUSSED THIS QUESTION, AND ~T WAS INDI- <br />CATED THAT IN THE PAST IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS, REVOCABLE PERMITS HAD BEEN GRANTED <br />TO USE AREAS UNDER THE SIDEWALKS FOR CERTAIN .COMPARABLE USES. . THE COMMITTEE <br />COULD SEE NO REASON. WHY A REVOCABLE PERMIT SHOULD NOT BE GRANTED AND RECOMMENDED <br />THAT A REVOCABLE PERMIT BE GRANTED FOR THE USE Of PROPERTIES UNDER THE SIDEWALKS <br />EXTENDING 80 FEET ON THE WEST SIDE OF OLIVE STREET AND 160 FEET ON T.HE SOUTH <br />SIDE OF BROADWAY. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />I.
