THE SUPERINTENDENT OF PARKS & RECREATION STATED THAT HIS DEPARTMENT <br />IS CURRENTLY STUDYING THIS SECTION OF THE CITY AND THE, PARKS NEEDS FOR THE SEC- <br />T ION BUT WERE NOT YET READY TO REPORT. HE SUGGESTED THAT A LETTER MIGHT BE :SENT <br />TO THE OWNERS OF LAURELWOOD GOLF COURSE REQUESTING THAT THE CITY BE INFORMED IN <br />THE EVENT THEY PROPOSE TO SELL THE LAURELWOOD PROPERTY. SPENCER BUTTE AREA - THE SUPERIN- <br />TENDENT or PARKS & RECREATION REPORTED HE HAD HELD DISCUSSIONS WITHTHE CHRISTENSEN <br />BROTHERS WHO OWN PROPERTY ON THE EAST SIDE OF SPENCER BUTTE, AND THAT BASED ON ONE <br />OF THE DISCUSSIONS APPROXIMATELY 90 TO 100 ACRES IMMEDIATELY ADJOINING CITY PRO- <br />PERTY ON SPENCER BUTTE COULD BE ACQUIRED FOR A PRICE OF $50,000, AND COULD FURTHER, <br />BE ACQUIRED ON A LONG TERM BASIS. .HE STATED THAT IN TALKING WITH THE CHRISTENSENS <br />THEY HAD TOLD H 1M THEY HAVE RECE.I VED A NUMBER OF REQUESTS TO PURCHASE THE PROPERTY <br />AT RATHER HIGH PRICES, BUT'THAT THEY DO NOT WISH TO SELL; HOWEVER, IF THE CITY JS <br />INTERESTED THEY WOULD SELL TO THE CITY. SHE FURTHER STATED SHE BEL I EVES: THE PUBL I C <br />WOULD APPROVE SUCH AN ITEM TO OBTAIN A BETTER AND MORE PURE WATER SUPPLY. IT WAS LIKEWISE STATED BY COUNCILWOMAN LAURIS THAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW <br />THE BACTERIA COUNT or THE EXISTING WATER SUPPLY FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS, THE COST or <br />CHLORINATION FOR THE PAST r.IVE YEARS, AND THE COST OF THE SULPHUR PROCESS NOW'TO'BE IN- <br />STALLED.
