REQUEST BY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT TO START AN ENLARGED <br />PROGRAM or GRASS AND WEED CUTTING - IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT THE PUBLIC WORKS DE- <br />PARTMENT NEEDS CERTAIN EQUIPMENT TO PROPERLY CARRY ON THE GRASS AND WEED CUTTING <br />PROGRAM DURING THE SUMMER OF 1959. THIS EQUIPMENT INCLUDES A STATION WAGON WHICH <br />WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING STATION WAGON RENTED BY THE CITY MANAGER AND MAKE THE <br />EXISTING EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO THE GRASS AND WEED INSPECTOR, AND ALSO WILL IN- <br />CLUDE TWO ADDITIONAL MOWERS. <br /> <br />THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF THESE ITEMS TO BE CHARGED <br />TO THE 1959-60 BUDGET WITH PAYMENT TO BE MADE AFTER JULY I, 1959. <br /> <br />IT WAS MOVED BY MR. SHEARER SECONDED BY MR. MOLHOLM THAT ITEM 2 or THE COMMITTEE REPORT BE <br />APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED. <br /> <br />3. REQUEST BY W'LDISH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY TO CHANGE SPEClrlCATIONS ON CERTAIN <br />STREET IMPROVEMENTS FROM PIT RUN GRAVEL TO CRUSHED ROCK - THE DIRECTOR,OF <br />PUBLIC WORKS INDICATED THAT WILDISH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY HAD REQUESTED THEY BE <br />ALLOWED TO USE A CRUSHED ROCK BASE ON ALL PAVING CONTRACTS HELD OVER FROM THE <br />1958 CONSTRUCTION SEASON. THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE WILLAMETTE rROM 33RD AVENUE <br />TO 40TH AVENUE, GRANT STREET FROM 18TH AVENUE TO 23RD AVENUE, P,ERCE STREET <br />rROM 18TH AVENUE TO 23RD AVENUE, AND GARFIELD STREEr rROM 11TH AVENUE TO 18TH <br />AVENUE. IT WAS FURTHER EXPLAINED THAT: CRUSHED ROCK WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY <br />15; ADDITIONAL PER SQUARE YARD BUT THAT SOME REDUCTION WOULD BE REALIZED DUE <br />TO A REDUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF EXCA~ATION. THE OVERALL CHANGE WOULD, ACCORD- <br />ING TO AN ESTIMATE, AMOUNT TO APPROXIMATELY 10; A FRONT rOOT ADDITIONAL OVER <br />THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE.
