<br />IT WAS STATED THAT THE NORTH CENTRAL PORTION Of THE CITY, BEING THE OLDER
<br />PORTION Of THE CITY, AT PRESENT HAS A COMBINATION STORM AND SANITARY SEWER
<br />SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM ADDS TO THE PROBLEMS fOR THE CITY AS A WHO~E SINCE EVERY
<br />MAJOR TRUNK IN THE CITY GOES THROUGH THE COMBINATION AREA. SINCE 1946-1948
<br />NO COMBINATION SEWERS HAVE BEEN BUILT BUT WITH THE INCREASE IN ANNEXATION,
<br />ESPECIALLY TO THE SOUTH, IT NOW BECOMES APPARENT THAT MORE ADEQUATE TRUNKS
<br />MUST BE BUILT TO ADEQUATELY SERVE THE SOUTHERN AND WESTERN SECTIONS Of THE
<br />CITY. IT ALSO BECOMES APPARENT THAT THERE MUST BE A SEPARATION Of THE COMBI-
<br />NATION SYSTEM IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA TO ADEUATELY MEET THE PROBLEM. WITH RE-
<br />SPECT TO THE CITY AS A WHOLE, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE 6TH AVENUE LINE HAVE
<br />RELIEf SO IT CAN PROPERLY DO ITS JOB.

<br />SECTION Of THE CITY HAVE BROUGHT DESIGN INfORMATION AND REQUIRED CAPACITIES

<br />TO THE PROBLEM Of THE WEST SIDE SEWER SYSTEM. IN ADDITION TO THESE PROBLEMS
<br />JUST ENUMERATED, IT APPEARS THAT THE DEPTH Of EXISTING LINES IS NOT SUffI-
<br />CIENT TO ALLOW fOR BASEMENT CONSTRUCTION AND ALL KINDS Of HOOKUPS TO THE
<br />SEWER LINE IN WHICH IT IS BELIEVED THE PROPERTY HOLDER HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY
<br />AS WELL AS THE CITY. IT WAS POINTED OUT THAT THE COMPREHENSIVE STUDY MAKES
<br />CERTAIN SUGGESTIONS AS TO ORDINANCES TO CORRECT THESE SITUATIONS. IT WAS
<br />fURTHER POINTED OUT THAT THERE IS AN ECONOMIC fACTOR WHICH ,ALSO CONTROLS TO
<br />A LARGE DEGREE WHAT CAN BE DONE IN ANY AREA. IT WAS INDICATED THAT IT IS NOT
<br />BELIEVED THAT INfiLTRATION IN THE WEST SIDE SYSTEM IS THE ONLY PROBLEM BUT
<br />THAT IT IS A VARIETY Of CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM INTO BEING.

<br />PROPOSAL WOULD BE TO BUILD A LINE fROM THE OUTfALL LINE TO 6TH AVENUE AND
<br />FILLMORE STREET AND THEN TO POLK STREET AT A COST Of $377,000.00, OR THE
<br />SAME LINE TO 8TH AVENUE BETWEEN GRANT AND CHAMBERS STREETS AT A COST Of
<br />$399,600.00. EITHER Of THESE WOULD BE THE fiRST LEG Of A PROPOSED LINE
<br />WHICH EVENTUALLY WOULD SERVE THE SOUTHWEST SECTION Of THE C'TY. IT WAS ALSO
<br />POINTED OUT THAT THE TOTAL ESTIMATES TO CONSTRUCT THE NECESSARY LINE fROM THE
<br />OUTfALL LINE TO SERVE BRYCLER PARK AT THE EXTREME SOUTHERN SECTION Of THE
<br />CITY WOULD BE $761,261.00, OR $600,000.00 TO GET AS fAR SOUTH AS 24TH AVENUE.
