TRAfFIC CONTROL, 22ND AND FRIENDLY - THE CITY MANAGER REPORTED THAT HE <br /> HAD RECEIVED A LETTER AND A PETITION fROM 38 CITIZENS INDICATING CONCERN <br /> fOR THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN CROSSING FRIENDLY STREET AT 22ND AVENUE GOING <br /> TO AND fROM ADAMS SCHOOL. THIS LETTER REQUESTED A LIGHT SIGNAL AT FRIENDLY <br /> I STREET AND 22ND AVENUE, A SCHOOL PATROL SYSTEM IN ADAMS SCHOOL, AND SCHOOL <br /> ZONE SIGNS IN THE VICINITY Of ALL SCHOOLS. THE CITY MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT <br /> THE CROSSWALKS HAD BEEN PAINTED AND THAT ADDITIONAL WARNING SIGNS HAD BEEN <br /> INSTALLED ON THE STREETS SURROUNDING ADAMS SCHOOL. HE fURTHER STATED THAT <br /> HE AGREED THAT A SCHOOL BOY PATROL AT ADAMS SCHOOL WAS DESIRABLE. <br /> THE CITY MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL BY MOTION ADDRESS A LETTER <br /> TO THE SCHOOL BOARD RECOMMENDING THAT A SCHOOL BOY PATROL BE ESTAa ISHED AT <br /> e ADAMS SCHOOL SINCE THE TRAfFIC IN THE AREA DOES NOT APPEAR TO WARRANT A <br /> LIGHT INSTALLATION AT THAT INTERSECTION. <br /> MR. SWANSON MOVED SECONDED BY MR. CHATT THAT A LETTER BE WRITTEN TO THE <br /> SCHOOL BOARD RECOMMENDING THAT A SCHOOL BOY PATROL BE ESTABLISHED AT ADAMS <br /> SCHOOL. MOTION CARRIED. <br /> 7 7, TRAffiC CONTROL, 22ND AND ALDER - THE CITY MANAGER STATED THAT HIS OFFICE <br /> HAD RECEIVED A PETITION SIGNED BY 20 RESIDENTS LIVING IN THE VICINITY OF <br /> 22ND AND ALDER REQUESTING THE INSTALLATION Of STOP SIGNS AT THE CORNERS Of <br /> 22ND AND ALDER. HE REPORTED THAT ACCIDENT RECORDS DO NOT INDICATE THIS <br /> INTERSECTION TO BE MORE HAZARDOUS THAN SIMILAR INTERSECTIONS I N THE C!TY, <br /> AND THAT TRAfFIC COUNTS OR VISUAL OBSTRUCTIONS DO NOT WARRANT SPECIAL SIGN- <br /> ING ATTENTION. HOWEVER, ALDER STREET IS A THROUGH STREET FROM 13TH TO 19TH <br /> AND POSSIBLY DRIVERS DO TRAVEL AT AN IMPRUDENT SPEED fOR THIS AREA. ALSO, <br /> STOP SIGNS WERE PREVIOUSLY REMOVED FROM THIS CORNER WHEN HARRIS STREET WAS <br /> I SET UP AS A THROUGH STREET. <br /> THE CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION OF STOP SIGN AT THIS INTERSEC- <br /> TION TO STOP NORTH-SOUTH TRAFFIC ON ALDER STREET AT 22ND AVENUE, STATING <br /> THAT THE RECOMMENDATION WAS MADE BECAUSE OF FORMER SIGNING, AND BECAUSE <br /> 7/22/63 - 6 <br /> e <br /> ~ <br />
