Rezoning to R-3 the block bounded by 15th, Polk, 16th, Tyler - <br />Suess (63-117) - This item was tabled in the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to table Item 3i of the Committee report. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />4. Planning Commission Report - January 13, 1964 <br />a. Rezone to C-2 SE corner 18th and City View, Johnson (64-002) <br />Mr. Johnson had requested that property on the southeast corner <br />of 18th and City View be rezoned to C-2 Neighborhood Commercial <br />from R-l Single Family Residential, and the Planning Commission <br />recommended denial of the request. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by <br />Mr. Christensen to uphold the Planning Commission recommendation <br />and deny the requested rezoning. Motion carried. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />b. Zoning recently annexed area west of Bertelson Road on both sides <br />of the SP Coos Bay branch (63-182) - The Planning Commission had <br />recommended denial of this zoning to M-3 Heavy Industrial and RA <br />Outer Residential as originally designated. .The"Commission also <br />recommended that the zoning be re-initiated, changing the origina~ly <br />recommended zone boundaries of the M-3 and RA zones. Dr. Purdy <br />moved seconded by Mr. Swanson to approve the re-initiation of <br />the zonigg. Motion carried. <br /> <br />c. Eaton Drive Dedication - The Planning Commission recommended that <br />the street dedication be accepted for a portion of Eaton Drive <br />located south and east of Fairmount Boulevard. However, upon <br />further discussion by the Council, Mr. Hawk moved seconded by <br />Dr. Purdy to hold the item for further study. Motion carried. <br /> <br />d. Street Name Change, Cherry Lane in 6th Addition to Highland Oaks <br />to Bowmont Street - The Planning Commission recommended that the <br />name of the street "Cherry Lane" in the.6th Addition to Highland <br />Oaks be changed to "Bowmont Street". Dr. Purdy moved seconded by <br />Mr. Deverell to approve the street name change. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve Item 4a through 4d of the Committee <br />report. Motion carried. <br /> <br />5. Sidewalks, Pearl from 19th to 24th - A letter was received from Mrs. N.J. <br />Nelson of 185 East 24th Avenue suggesting that the Council consider the <br />installation of sidewalks on Pearl Street between 19th and 24th Avenues. <br />It was suggested that the staff make a study and return a cost estimate <br />of the ways and means to control pedestrian traffic at this location. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that Item 5 of. the Committee report be re- <br />ceived and filed pending a report from the staff. Motion carried. <br /> <br />6. Self-service Laundromats - A memorandum from the Police Chief to the <br />City Manager was read concerning incidents at laundromats during the <br />calendar year 1963, giving a list of offenses and suggesting that the <br />Council consider regulation to include early closing hours, or insist- <br />ing that an attendant be in the building after certain hou~ of the <br />evening. The item was held for further study." <br /> <br />The City Manager stated he had met with several of the owners and operators of coin <br />operated laundries within the City of Eugene, and the result of the discussion was <br />that the operators and owners felt that something could be worked out without hav- <br />ing to close their operations on designated hours. <br /> <br />Upon further discussion, Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to hold the item <br />pending further action by the staff and laundromat operators. Motion carried. <br /> <br />ORDINANCES <br /> <br />Council Bill No. 6420 - Prohibiting leaving minor children'unattended in autos was submitted and <br />read in full, having been submitted on January 13, 1964 but held over without being read. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that the bill be read the second time by council..b~l~ number <br />only, with unanimous consent of the Council. Motion carried unanimously and the bill was read the <br />third time by council bill number only. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that the rules be suspended and the bill read the third time <br />,by council bill number only, with unanimous consent of the Council.
