Traffic Control, 1st and Monroe - A petition was presented for installation of a <br /> traffic light at 1st and Monroe by a number of residents of the area. Traffic' control <br /> on 1st between VanBuren and Lawrence had-been before the Council previously. The <br /> Traffic'Engineer reported concerning traffic control for pedestrian crossings in thfu <br /> area. Mr. Anderson moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to erect a crosswalk sign at 1st and <br /> Monroe. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to approve Item 7 of the Committee report. Motion carried. <br /> 2 8. Invitation, Western States Fire Apparatus, Inc. - An invitation was read from Western <br /> States Fire Apparatus, Inc. , for Council members and any other of the City staff in~ <br /> terested to visit Western States shops at Cornelius, Oregon. The Company will" supply <br /> transportation from Eugene to Cornelius and return, and will furnish meals and"re- <br /> freshments. <br /> 3 9. HHFA Open Space Grant, OS-9, Various Parks Sites - A telegram was read from the Housing <br />e and Home Finance Agency announcing approval of a Federal Grant for $35,280. Applica- <br /> tion ~or .theopen space grant was made for acquisition of various parks sites in the City. <br /> 4 10. Close Allev Between South Park and Broadwav, Oak and Pearl - Lewis Hoffman requested <br /> closure of this alley to vehicular traffic to allow improvement by plantings and to <br /> allow pedestrian traffic only. The City Manager's office will investigate and make a <br /> recommendation at a later date." <br />I Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris that Items 8, 9, and 10 of the Committee report be received <br /> and placed on file. Planning Commission Report - Mav 24, 1965 <br /> a. Rezone SE corner 8th and Washington to C-3P, Venn (65-031) - Mr. Eugene Venn <br /> requested this rezoning from R-3 Multiple Family Residential to C-3P Commer- <br /> cial. At a special joint meeting of the Planning Commission and City Council <br /> it was recommended that the rezoning request be approved. It was moved by <br /> Mr. McNutt seconded by Mr. Crakes to approve the recommendation. Motion carried. <br /> 6 2. Planning Commission Report - June 1, 1965 <br /> a. Rezone area east of Coburg Road and north of Q Street to C~3P, Planning Com- <br /> mission (65-079) - The Planning Commission initiated and recommended approval <br /> of this rezoning from R-l Single Family Residential to C-3P Commercial. However, <br /> after some discussion Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Crakes to hold the matter <br /> over for further information. Motion carried. <br />I 7 b.Rezone NE corner of 8th and Almaden to C-2, Wilson-Jones (65-078) - Lottie J. <br /> Wilson and Hiram L. Jones requested this rezoning from R-3G Garden Apartment <br /> to C-2 Neighborhood Commercial to allow location of a west side branch post- <br /> office. The Planning Commission recommended approval. Mr. McNutt moved <br /> seconded by Mr. Hawk to approve the recommendation. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris that Items la, 2a, and 2b be held over for hearing on June 28, <br /> 1965. Motion carried. <br />e 8 c. Vacation, Haves Lane, McKav - The McKay Investment Company requested vacation <br /> of Hayes Lane from Coburg Road to Oakway Road when construction of the new <br /> Oakmont Way is com~leted from Coburg Road to Oakway Road. The Planning Commis- <br /> sion recommended approval of this vacation. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by <br /> Mr. Lassen to initiate the vacation proceedings. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to approve Item 2c of the Committee report. Motion carried. <br /> 9 3. Amendment, Fireworks Ordinance, Lions Club - Bill Minihan, representing a local Lions <br /> Club, requested amendment of the fireworks ordinance to allow sale of July 4th packages <br /> which contained an item called a "snake" not now allowed to be sold in Eugene. After <br /> questions to Mr. Minihan and further discussion by the Council members, Mr. McNutt <br /> moved seconded by Mr. Anderson to approve the requested amendment. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to approve Item 3 of the Committee report. Motion carried. <br />I 10 4. Abatement, Crvstal Ice Companv, 777 East Broadwav, Campbell - A report from the Superin- <br /> tendent of Building Inspection was read in which were listed 11 improvements proposed to <br /> be made by C. F; Campbell, owner of "the property, to forestall further abatement proceed- <br /> ings. The 11 improvements listed were: <br /> a. Remove all debris, unused equipment, and cut weeds on property. <br /> b. Repair all broken windows in building. <br /> c. Remove deteriorated and unused steps and platforms from front of building. <br />e d. Cover exterior walls of condenser structure with vision obscuring screening. <br /> e. Remove unused condensers, piping, and structures on roof at east end of building. <br /> f. Remove all collapsed and dangerous portions of main building and replace with <br /> adequate structures to support roof and walls. 6/14/65 - 8 II .... <br />
