Federal Legislation, Transmission Lines - A letter from Senator Neuberger's office was read requesting Council sOupport for S .B.2507 and S.B.2508. The proposed legislation would authorize the Secre- tary of Interior to conduct a research program regarding overhead electric transmission Tines with regard .to their effect upon the health and welfare of citizens, community planning and zoning, real estate values and tax revenues, ana natural beauty of the co~ntry. To develop and encourage the use of underground trans- mission of electrical ppwer, and to undertake projects to evaluate and demonstrate the economical and technical feasibility of sucll transmission. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Mc Nutt the request be referred t,o EWEB for an expression of opinion. Motion carried. Mrs. Lauris moved second bJl; Mr. .Chatt that Item 20 of the Committee report be ap- proved. Mr.s. Lauris commentea tha:t committee action should be worded more stongly. The Council discussed the proposed legislation in general. Mr. Anderson moved second 'by Mr. Crakes the committee action be amended to require that 'EWEB's recommendation be forwanded direct to Senator Neuberger's office. Vacation ortion utilit Adkins Street, Bar 'M Ranch th Addition Adkins - The Planning Commission recommeIlded approval of the requested vacation. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to vacate the ease- ~ent as requested. Motion carr.ied. < 3 q. Vacation Block 9 and Lots and 5, Block 10, 6th Addition Southern Oaks Public Works - The Planning Commission re- commended approval of this vacation initiated by the Public Works Department to permit replatting and realignment of Onyx Street at 35th. Mr. Anderson moved seconded 'by Mrs. Lauris to vacate the area as requested. Motion carried. 4 c. Annexation area north of Crescent Avenue between Sarah Lane and Gilham Road (Allender-Gillespie) (66-075) '- The Planning Commission approved annexation of this area ,petitioned by owners of 100% of the property. Police Department Safety Award - A letter was read-from the National Police Officers Association with regard to theEugene Police Depart- ment's receiving the 1965 National Police Safety Award for traffic safety. . Mrs. Lauris moved second by Mr. Chatt the Council add their commendation to the Police.Department .for receiving the 1965 National Police Safety Award.
