Federal Legislation, Transmission Lines - A letter from Senator <br />Neuberger's office was read requesting Council sOupport for S .B.2507 <br />and S.B.2508. The proposed legislation would authorize the Secre- <br />tary of Interior to conduct a research program regarding overhead <br />electric transmission Tines with regard .to their effect upon the <br />health and welfare of citizens, community planning and zoning, <br />real estate values and tax revenues, ana natural beauty of the <br />co~ntry. To develop and encourage the use of underground trans- <br />mission of electrical ppwer, and to undertake projects to evaluate <br />and demonstrate the economical and technical feasibility of sucll <br />transmission. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Mc Nutt the request <br />be referred t,o EWEB for an expression of opinion. Lauris commentea tha:t committee action should be worded more stongly. Mr. Anderson moved seconded 'by Mrs. <br />Lauris to vacate the area as requested. Motion carried. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />c. Annexation area north of Crescent Avenue between Sarah <br />Lane and Gilham Road (Allender-Gillespie) (66-075) '- The <br />Planning Commission approved annexation of this area <br />,petitioned by owners of 100% of the property. Police Department Safety Award - A letter was read-from the National <br />Police Officers Association with regard to theEugene Police Depart- <br />ment's receiving the 1965 National Police Safety Award for traffic <br />safety. . <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved second by Mr. Chatt the Council add their commendation to the <br />Police.Department .for receiving the 1965 National Police Safety Award.
