All councilmen <br /> present voting aye, motion carried. <br /> I COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Committee meeting held May 25, 1967: <br /> t <br /> "present:Mayor Cone; Councilmen Purdy, Lauris, Anderson, Lassen,Hayward, McDonald, and Wingard; <br /> City Manager and staff; and bthers. <br /> e 2 1. Public Hearings. Improvement Proiects - Councilman Anderson suggested a meeting of two <br /> or three Council members with the City Manager and Public Works Director to work out <br /> some method of informing property owners on details of Council initiated projects prior <br /> to the public hearings. The purpose is to give answers to technical questions at some <br /> time other than a regular Council meeting. <br /> 3 2. Zoning North of Wi1lamette River - Councilman Purdy suggested sending a letter to the <br /> County Commissioners expressing the City's appreciation for their support in denying <br /> the Kendall Ford rezoning request of an area just north of the River immediately adja- <br /> cent to the City limits. Councilman Anderson said he felt there should be more dis- <br /> cussion with the County concerning the area north of the River, especially since the <br /> Washington-Jefferson bridge is being constructed. It was agreed a draft of a letter <br /> which might be sent to the County Commissioners would be brought back for consideration. <br /> .. <br /> Mr. Anderson moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris that Items land 2 of the Committee report be received and <br /> filed. Motion carried. <br /> I 4 3. Oregon Electric. Tracks. 5th Avenue - Copies of a report and recommendation from the <br /> City Manager with regard to removal of Oregon Electric tracks from 5th Avenue were <br /> previously distributed to CJunci1 members. Copies of the report were also sent to the <br /> Oregon Electric people and to firms receiving shipments over the Oregon Electric tracks <br /> east of Almaden Street. A reply from Oregon Electric was read requesting a 10-year re-. <br /> newal of the present franchise. The City.Manager.recomp1ended renewal forone.year,with <br /> provision for an extension of no:1onger than two years. He said he would not recommend <br /> - a lO-year renewal since planning is progressing on redevexopment of the downtown area, <br /> and a 10-year franchise would preclude any change in the 5th Avenue area.
