I <br /> <br />The ~ssistant City 'Manciiger . explained t'hat" ~. committee' c.omprised'.;~'f Springf:ield 'C'o~nCilman Woj'ci'k; <br />Eugene Councilman McDonald, the Finance Director, and himself met to consider a request from W. H. <br />Leona,rd, owner'of Eugene-Springfield 'Ainbulance 'Service, for an increase in 'ambularice service rates. <br />Mr. Leonard originally requested permission to charge a $35.50 starting rate instead of the' present <br />$26.00. .He later amended his request. to a $30.00 starting fee with a $.75 portal to portal metered <br />rate and various 'incre'as'es in' miscellaneous servicec.:charges. The committee recommended a $28.00 <br />starting fee, and a: fee of $.75 per mi'ie portal to portal (Le.; from Ambula'nce Service to hospital <br />and back to Ambulance Service) instead of the present $l. 00 per mile fr'om point of pat ient pickup to <br />patient destination. Also, a change from $.25 per mile on wheelchair coach rates to $.25 per mile <br />portal to portal. The Assistant City Manager, s,aid the committee feels these increases will produce <br />a $14,000 to $'t5,OOO 'net' pit'ofit which ~il1 be used for a' 5% pay i'n'crease for' the Ambulance Service <br />emp~oyes', possible expansion through additionai 'office facflities, and a salary to the owner, but <br />that ,a review may be made after a six-month period.
