I Mr. Teague moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the bills as presented and read be allowed, and the
proper city officials authorized to draw the necessary warrants. Rollcall vote. All councilmen
present voting aye, the motion carried.
Liquor License applicatioris approved by Police Department:
Retail Malt Beverage Class C - Cracker Barrel Taversn - S.E. corner 2nd & Washington
Retail Malt Beverage Class A - Frontier Tavern - 1879 Highway 99 North
Package Store Class B - Of Grape and Grain - 45 West 29th I
These requests were presented at the meeting of June 8, and held over to allow interested parties
to be aware they were proposed, and given an opportunity to appear.
'rhe City Manager said he had received a phone call regarding fIef Grape and Grain," but that when the
caller was informed this was not a tavern license request, but for a package store, the objection [I
was withdrawn. Ii
e
Mr. Teague moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the Council recommend approval of the liquor licenses II
listed above. !I
Mr. Clinton Hedrick, owner of a trailer sales at 1885 Highway 99 North, objected to this use, and II
II
asked what type building would be built. He felt there were enough taverns in the area. II
I Mr. Neeiy, Mrs. Verna Benson and Mr. Jeske also lived in the vicinity, and objected to a tavern in II
I
the neighborhood.
,
,
Mr. John Langen said he was proposing to build the tavern. This is a commercial zone and taverns II
I are allowed. He said the objectors were mostly across a four lane highway, and that he would have II
I adequate parking.
places serving hard liquor and one place serving wine. She felt that was sufficient for the area.
Mr~ Mohr moved seconded by Mrs. Hayward that the Council substitute a motion that they recommend I
,
approval for Cracker Barrel Tavern at 2nd and Washington, of Grape and Grain at 45 West 29th, and I
I I
I denial for Frontier Tavern, 1879 Highway 99 North.Grounds for non-approval are that it is incom-
patible with surrounding neighborhood, even though in a permitted zone, and that niehgborhood
considerations overrule.
Councilman Teague said he had driven by these locations, and that he was concerned that the proposed II
location at 45 West 29th was back of the liquor store, and whether there was a need for another out-
let at this location, and where the building could be placed on the 2nd and Washington location. II
,
There was some discussion regarding location of a store so close to the liquor store, and it was I
I thought there could be no reason to deny it, since the location does not seem to present any problems
from a police standpoint. I
Mr. Langen requested that the Council postpone action on his request so that he could provide de- ,
I
tailed plans. I
Mr. Mohr suggested that the Council enter remarks on the application to reflect the attitude of the I
Council, and that the only question was compatibility to the neighborhood.
e A vote was taken on the motion as stated. Motion carried. Mr. Teague gave a qualified denial for 'I
I,
the Frontier Tavern, and voted no on approval of the Cracker Barrel Tavern and Of Grape and Grain. :1
