<br />He did ltltrink bathing or swimming should be prohibited, but he was in favor of allowing wading. He
<br />felt the subject should have public discussion, and that the issue should be identified.

<br />Mayor Anderson thought that the issue was very well identified~ He explained that the Portland
<br />fountain had been designed for bathing purposes, a fountain to be lived in, rather than loo~ed
<br />at. ~ile a lot of people may not even like to look at ours, it was certainly not designed to be
<br />utilized for bathing or wading. He could not see where the public iT).terest would be violated by
<br />denial of privilege to bathe 0~ wade in the fountain. What the ordinance is trying to do is give
<br />law enforcement people some backing which they heed to preserve the area for what it was intended.
