Human Rights Commission <br />Fiscal Year 2018 Work Plan <br />Objective 1: <br />To acquaint the HRC (City Council, City Leadership, etc.) with issues, needs and other factors that <br />influence our young people, and to inspire and support youth to become ambassadors of community <br />leadership via their input to the HRC. <br />Leads: J. Johnson, A. Walsh <br />Action 1.1 <br />Engage youth via focus groups from existing community organizations (ie: NAACP Youth, <br />collaborating with community organizations and individuals. <br />15th Night Youth Advisory Council [YAC], MEChA, 4J/Bethel School Board Youth reps, high <br />Monitor and advocate for civil and human rights of people who are homeless and/or living <br />school student unions, etc.). <br />Action 1.2 <br />Research steps to educating young people in Eugene to know their (human/civil) rights <br />Advocate for expansion of shelter and other housing options and access to resources and <br />and use their voices effectively. Include youth in this process. <br />Objective 2: <br />Increase community engagement, propose policy recommendations to the Eugene City Council and <br />inform the community on issues of homelessness and poverty. <br />Leads: A. Hamide <br />Action 3.1 <br />Facilitate development of anti -discrimination work group comprised of members of <br />Eugene's marginalized communities, including communities of color, Muslim, Jewish and <br />LGBTQ communities. <br />Action 3.2 <br />Widely disseminate "Marginalized Voices" report. <br />Action 3.3 <br />Collaborate with Jewish community members to present anti-Semitism training(s) for <br />HRC, anti -discrimination work group and broader Eugene community. <br />Action 3.4 <br />Assist work group community members in planning and carrying out International Human <br />Rights Day event in December, with a focus on marginalized communities. <br />Action 3.5 <br />Initiate planning of a Summit for marginalized communities (recommendation #8, p. 15), <br />including budget. Request funding from City. <br />Action 3.6 <br />Policy analysis and advising regarding recommendations in "Marginalized Voices" report. <br />
