Human Rights Commission Fiscal Year 2018 Work Plan Objective 1: To acquaint the HRC (City Council, City Leadership, etc.) with issues, needs and other factors that influence our young people, and to inspire and support youth to become ambassadors of community leadership via their input to the HRC. Leads: J. Johnson, A. Walsh Action 1.1 Engage youth via focus groups from existing community organizations (ie: NAACP Youth, collaborating with community organizations and individuals. 15th Night Youth Advisory Council [YAC], MEChA, 4J/Bethel School Board Youth reps, high Monitor and advocate for civil and human rights of people who are homeless and/or living school student unions, etc.). Action 1.2 Research steps to educating young people in Eugene to know their (human/civil) rights Advocate for expansion of shelter and other housing options and access to resources and and use their voices effectively. Include youth in this process. Objective 2: Increase community engagement, propose policy recommendations to the Eugene City Council and inform the community on issues of homelessness and poverty. Leads: A. Seligmann, A. Walsh, E. Kubok Action 2.1 Monitor, advise and advocate for ways to respond to poverty and homelessness, while Facilitate development of anti -discrimination work group comprised of members of collaborating with community organizations and individuals. Action 2.2 Monitor and advocate for civil and human rights of people who are homeless and/or living LGBTQ communities. in poverty. Hamide Action 3.1 Facilitate development of anti -discrimination work group comprised of members of Eugene's marginalized communities, including communities of color, Muslim, Jewish and LGBTQ communities. Action 3.2 Widely disseminate "Marginalized Voices" report. Action 3.3 Collaborate with Jewish community members to present anti-Semitism training(s) for HRC, anti -discrimination work group and broader Eugene community. Action 3.4 Assist work group community members in planning and carrying out International Human Rights Day event in December, with a focus on marginalized communities. Action 3.5 Initiate planning of a Summit for marginalized communities (recommendation #8, p. 15), including budget. Request funding from City. Action 3.6 Policy analysis and advising regarding recommendations in "Marginalized Voices" report.
