<br />e <br /> <br />Responding to a question from Councilor Schue, Ms. Smernoff said that the work <br />of the Business Assistance Team was being coordinated with the work of the Lane <br />Economic Forum, to avoid duplication of effort, and that one member of the JCED <br />also sits as a board member on the Lane Economic Foundation. Ms. Schue, Ms. <br />Wooten, and Mr. Lindberg commended staff and others involved for their work on <br />the City's economic diversification effort. Mr. Lindberg said that Steve <br />Robinson, Jon Stafford, and Harris Hoffman, members of the Community Development <br />Committee deserved recognition for their contributions to this effort. Ms. <br />Wooten urged Ms. Smernoff and others working with the Economic Diversification <br />Program to publicize the program and make the public more aware of the efforts <br />the City is making in this area. Ms. Smernoff said that a number of such <br />educational and informational events were planned for the month of June. <br /> <br />Ms. Wooten asked how staff anticipated proceeding with efforts to contact small <br />businesses needing assistance. Ms. Smernoff responded that a networking system <br />was being developed. She also felt that the June publicity events would help <br />get the word out. <br /> <br />Mr. Lindberg referred to the Community Development Block Grant funds allocated <br />for economic diversification. He reported that he had joined staff members from <br />the Department of Housing and Community Conservation in talking with the area <br />director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regarding <br />use of these funds. He said that HUD staff felt very strongly that the focus of <br />the CnBG economic diversification program needed to be on creating jobs for, or <br />otherwise benefiting, low-income people. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mr. Gleason commended Councilor Hamel for his work in publicizing the City's <br />efforts in numerous visits to local businesses. He said Mr. Hamel's outreach <br />efforts had been very successful. <br /> <br />Councilor Wooten left the meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Keller expressed the unanimous support of the council for the economic <br />diversification efforts being made by the City. <br /> <br />VI. EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> <br />Mayor Keller called the council into executive session under ORS 192.660(1)(e) <br />to consult with staff regarding property acquisitions. <br /> <br />Mayor Keller asked all those in the audience, with the exception of representa- <br />tives of news media, to leave the chamber. He explained that no action would be <br />taken during the executive session.
