<br /> Mr. Gleason reiterated Ms. Cochran's invitation, and expressed his own excite- <br /> ment at the originality of the concept of the Job Training Camp. He said the <br />e intention was to impact those young people who had the hardest time finding and <br /> keeping jobs. He commented that much of the food, materials and training had <br /> been donated. In response to a query by Councilor Holmer as to the total cost <br /> of the operation and source of funds, he added that job training funds and food <br /> donations from the Department of Agriculture were being used. He said staff <br /> would provide the Council with a financial report on the program. <br /> Councilors Schue and Lindberg congratulated those responsible for the program. <br /> Ms. Cochran added that, while overall unemployment in Oregon in 1982 had been 10 <br /> percent, unemployment in the 16-21 age-group was 20.5 percent. She said that <br /> those at the camp were low-income young people with little motivation and no <br /> skills, and that their experience in the camp was helping to build their confi- <br /> dence and motivation. <br /> VIII. ROUTINE ITEM FOR COUNCIL APPROVAL: CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OF JUNE 27. 1983 <br /> AND JULY 13, 1983 <br /> Councilor Schue moved, seconded by Councilor Obie, to approve the <br /> City Council minutes of June 27, 1983, and July 13, 1983. Roll <br /> call vote.
