Ms. Shu said that over <br /> 2,000 residents had been served over the past two years and approximately 34 <br /> percent of those commuters had been placed in carpools. <br /> Councilor Ball congratulated Ms. Shu and the other members of the TAKEPART <br /> program for obtaining national recognition for their work with only very limited <br /> funding. <br /> Councilor Holmer requested a written summary of the report, to include the <br /> actual figures involved. <br /> Roll call vote; the motion carried unanimously, 8:0. <br /> VI. RESOLUTION ON AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IN CITY BOARD AND COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS <br />e (memo, resolution distributed) <br /> City Manager M;cheal Gleason introduced the agenda item. Justine Heavilon of <br /> the Women's Commission presented the staff report. She requested the council <br /> adopt a resolution to use affirmative action in appointments to City boards and <br /> commissions. She echoed the comments of Ms. Schue in that the City was looking <br /> for a more diverse population to appoint to these groups. She outlined the <br /> resolution which called for the extension of the City's affirmative action <br /> policy to City and Mayoral appointments to City boards and commissions and the <br /> encouragement of City staff in using affirmative action methods to alert minority <br /> groups of vacancies within the commissions. <br /> Res. No. 3822--A resolution concerning affirmative action in <br /> appointments to City boards and commissions. <br /> Ms. Schue moved, seconded by Mr. Obie, to adopt the resolution. <br /> Councilor Holmer enthusiastically supported the resolution.
