John Billington, 91 Madison Street, also speaking for Mr. Jensen, requested the opposition to the sign district change. Their office is a house built in 1910 and has recently been brought back to its original condition with historic integrity. They had planned to put a 16-square-foot sign in the lawn. The change in sign district from industrial to residential would require putting the sign on the face of the building. He said that this would be impractical and aestheti- cally offensive. He urged the denial of the sign district change. Public hearing was closed there being no further testimony. Mr. Saul said that the Sign Code does allow for variance and the industrial zoning is inappropriate considering the direction the City wishes the neighborhood to go. To Ms. Smith's question, Mr. Saul said that the application for variance is done through the Public Works Department and it would take four to five weeks. Mr. Saul noted that this would be taken to the Sign Code Board of Appeals and that the Sign Code Board of Appeals' ruling could be appealed to the Council by way of Council Assessment Committee. e 1.
