<br />e <br /> <br />smoking would be prohibited. The hearing is to establish guidelines <br />as to whether an ordinance should be produced. The areas being <br />discussed are: <br /> <br />1. All elevators accessible to the public. <br /> <br />2. All engaged taxicabs and regular common carriers, including <br />scheduled motor buses and school buses, except special or char- <br />tered buses for private hire. <br /> <br />3. All waiting rooms in bus, train, and airport facilities, except a <br />designated area set aside for smoking not to exceed 50 percent of <br />the seating area, provided the existing physical barriers and <br />ventilation systems are used to minimize the toxic effect of smoke <br />in adjacent nonsmoking areas. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />4. All indoor theaters, libraries, museums, auditoriums, and concert <br />halls (except on stage when part of a theatrical performance) <br />whenever open to the public, except smoking is allowed in any area <br />commonly referred to as a lobby if physically separated from the <br />spectator area and not otherwise prohibited by law. <br /> <br />5. All school buildings, except in certain areas of employee lounges <br />not to exceed 50 percent of the lounge areas, provided existing <br />physical barriers and ventilation systems are used to minimize the <br />toxic effect of smoke in adjacent nonsmoking areas, and in private <br />offices occupied exclusively by smokers even though such offices <br />may be visited by nonsmokers. <br /> <br />6. All retail stores, except tobacco shops, areas in retail stores <br />devoted exclusively to the sale of tobacco products, beauty salons <br />and barber shops, rest rooms, employee lounges and private offices <br />in said retail stores, unless otherwise prohibited by law. <br /> <br />7. All waiting rooms or public hallways of every public or private <br />health care facility, including, but not limited to, hospitals and <br />doctors' offices, except a separate waiting room may be established <br />for smokers as long as there exists a waiting room in the same <br />facility in which smoking is prohibited. <br /> <br />8. All meeting conference rooms and assembly halls in which ten or <br />more persons gather for educational, business, professional, <br />union, recreational, or political purposes, unless all persons <br />present consent to waive this no-smoking requirement, except for <br />any place being used for private social functions, or in separate <br />areas designated by the owner or person in charge of such rooms. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />5/5/80--15 <br />
