<br />9. All indoor work places, except in private offices occupied exclus- <br />ively by smokers even though such offices may be visited by 4It <br />nonsmokers. The employer may designate work areas where smoking <br />is permitted, provided existing physical barriers and ventilation <br />systems are used to minimize the toxic effect of smoke on adjacent <br />nonsmoking areas. <br /> <br />10. All meeting rooms during public meetings under the control of the <br />Eugene City Council, or of any commission, committee, or body <br />established by the Eugene City Council. <br /> <br />11. All indoor service areas and waiting areas of financial institutions, <br />government, business, and professional offices, including, but not <br />limited to, the waiting areas of attorneys, engineers, architects, <br />realtors, brokers, consultants, and veterinarians. <br /> <br />12. All self-service laundry facilities. <br /> <br />13. All restaurants serving food to the public in rooms having an <br />occupied capacity of 50 or more persons, except that a smoking <br />area may be designated as long as adequate nonsmoking areas are <br />provided to satisfy customer demand. Existing physical barriers <br />and ventilating systems shall be used to minimize the toxic effect <br />of smoke in adjacent nonsmoking areas. Ashtrays, cigarette <br />machines, and other smoking paraphernalia shall not be placed in <br />nonsmoking areas. Taverns, bars, and cocktail lounges are excluded <br />from these smoking prohibitions. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />14. All retail food stores which are designed and arranged to display <br />and sell food products for consumption off the premises by the <br />public, except an employee smoking area may be designated by the <br />management as long as the area is properly ventilated and is <br />segregated from both the areas in which food is handled and the <br />areas used by shoppers. <br /> <br />This is a series of comprehensive proposals derived from ordinances <br />from various cities. <br /> <br />Ms. Schue stated this is a working paper and there may be changes, <br />additions, or deletions. <br /> <br />Ms. Smith noted no action would be taken on this matter tonight. <br />Ms. Smith opened public hearing. <br />Speaking in favor of the proposals: <br /> <br />Glen Gordon, 1136 East 20th Avenue, stated he is in favor of <br />the concept.
