-

e

-

M I NUT E S

Eugene City Council
City Council Chamber

February 25, 1981
11:30 a.m.

PRESENT: Councilors Gretchen Miller, Mark Lindberg, D. W. Hamel, Cynthia
Wooten, and Emily Schue.

Councilors absent: Betty Smith, Brian Obie, and Eric Haws.

I. ITEMS FROM MAYOR & COUNCIL, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS

A. Labor Disputes

Ms. Wooten stated that she had crossed a picket line into City Hall today with
great objection in order to attend the City Council meeting. She requested a
status report on the picket and the labor practices involved in the dispute.

B. School Closures

Ms. Miller stated that letters from citizens and from the Fairmount Neighborhood
Association were distributed to the council and to the task force on school clo-
sures. Schools are the anchor for the neighborhood in the East University area
which is family-oriented with many school-age children. If the schools are
closed in that neighborhood, then problems such as those in the West University
Neighborhood could begin in that area also. Ms. Wooten stated that the Planning
Department is preparing a report on the impact of potential closures. The report
should be distributed soon to the council.

C. Shuttle System

Mr. Gleason stated that council dealt with the shuttle bus issue several weeks
ago and had requested that staff monitor the status of this project. As a
result, staff is giving a 30-day notice to cease operation of the shuttle bus.
On the March 11, 1981, council agenda, an information item will be placed
regarding ridership and other information pertaining to this project. The
council can act at that time. At this point, less than 100 riders per day
are using the shuttle and ridership is declining rapidly.

II. ROUTINE ITEMS FOR COUNCIL APPROVAL

A. Approval of Council Minutes of January 14, 1981, and
January 28, 1981; Legislative Subcommittee Minutes of February 19, 1981

MINUTES--Eugene City Council

February 25, 1981

Page 1
