Mr. Urhausen raised concern over the Human Rights Commission checking into the jail sentence
of an anarchist arrested in the community. He said it was not the purview of the commission to
question decisions made by the judiciary.

Mayor Torrey closed the Public Forum.

Councilor Kelly said there was never any discussion among the Human Rights Commission about
re-naming the center. He noted that the Hult Center location was where Japanese Americans
from the area had gathered before being interned, and that discussion involved adding a memorial
somewhere at the Hult Center.

Councilor Pap~ thanked Mr. Guest for bringing national matters to the attention of the council.

Councilor Taylor expressed hope that a plaque or memorial would be placed on the site of the Hult
Center as a memorial to interned Japanese Americans.

Councilor Bettman thanked those who spoke. She noted that the Human Rights Commission had
compared the sentence of the "anarchist," referred to by Mr. Urhausen, and felt that there was
political motivation behind the overly heavy sentence. She said it was an equity issue and had
noting to do with taking up the cause of the anarchist.

II.CONSENT CALENDAR

A.
