The role of the Budget Committee is to ensure that monies used to benefit the community are utilized in an efficient,
equitable, and effective manner. The Committee should listen to community members as it concerns what changes
they would like to see made in the budget and seriously take them into consideration as valuable feedback. The
Committee must ensure that current needs are met as well effectively plan ahead for future needs within an agreed-
upon framework. Any changes or adjustments made to the budget should be done after appropriate research and/or
evaluation. The Committee must proactively identify and address any issues with the budget.
1 What do you see as the role of the Budget Committee?
I believe my experience of working as a budgets and planning analyst for a declining business segment will be most
valuable to the Budget Committee. Through that experience where the budget was reduced from $80MM to $25MM
and headcount was reduced to 850 people to 250 people, I learned how to sensitively and diplomatically partner with
program managers to make hard decisions.
2 What particular contribution do you believe you can make as a member of the Budget Committee?
I have an undergraduate degree in finance which included accounting coursework. I have an MBA which included
additional finance and accounting coursework at a managerial level. I am a Certified Financial Planner professional
and have in-depth knowledge in retirement plans and investments. I have worked as a financial analysis for a large
company several focus areas to include budgets and planning, capital asset management, inventory and supply chain
analysis, and marketing spending analysis.
3 What experience or education have you had in reviewing financial data (budgets, financial statements, etc.)?
One thing the City of Eugene could focus on is creating a culture of openness to good ideas for efficiency regardless
of the scale. Another thing would be to focus on consistent and quality data. Another thing would be to focus on
outcomes as success measures.
4 What three things can the City of Eugene do to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery?
I have been a board member and classroom volunteer for the Junior Achievement Eugene Advisory Board as well as a
member of the Bags of Love Board. After completing the Leadership Eugene-Springfield program, I joined the
steering committee. I served as a member for the first two years of the Eugene Chamber Young Professionals Summit
Steering Committee. I took a year off from community involvement to complete the education program requirements
to sit for the Certified Financial Planner exam. Now that I have passed the exam, I am ready to pursue community
service again. After living in Eugene for six+ years, I would very much like to the opportunity to serve on a city
board/commission.
5 What boards, commissions, or other public or civic groups do you currently serve on or have served on in the past?
Interested Applicants
4/2/2018 9:34:12 AM
InterestedApplicants
October 22, 2018, Meeting – Item 4
