Does the Manager's guidance and leadership
i enhance the organization's openness and
i__ _ availability to the public?

I continue to devote considerable time and attention to community relations and outreach. I have
made it a personal priority to be present and visible throughout our community. I make a
concerted effort to reach out to neighborhood associations and neighborhood leaders on a regular
basis. Over the last two years, I have tried to attend every one of the 22 neighborhood
association meetings. I have nearly achieved my goal and plan to continue to attend
neighborhood meetings on a regular and periodic basis as a way for me to continue to learn about
our community and the hopes and dreams people have for our city and their neighborhoods.

I believe it is important to reach out to and learn from community stakeholders. In addition to
attending neighborhood association meetings, I frequently meet with the Neighborhood Leaders
Council and the individual members of the Budget Committee.

I work hard to foster the values and integrity of representative government and local democracy
when I meet with people inside and outside of our City organization. Because we are committed
to meaningful citizen participation and community involvement in the decisions that affect our
lives, we have been actively promoting greater use of neighborhood associations as venues for
important community conversations. I have encouraged each of our Executive Directors and all
of our program managers to make civic engagement an important part of service delivery and
service evaluation.
11
