CITY MANAGER EVALUATION
Employee Comments

Employee 1:

1. In what areas does the City Manager's performance meet your expectations?

His e-mail newsletters keep us up to date on current events. This morning's note is a
good example. It covered the council vote on the budget from two nights ago. I consider
that timely and he covered some of the additions to the budget. I don't have a chance to
follow the Council actions other than those that directly affect my department.

2. In what areas does the City Manager's performance exceed your expectations?

Dennis has been to our PDD annual Workshop. It was good to see that he expressed an
interest in staff as well as the work we do. He was approachable and left me with a good
feeling about his concern for all City departments. I feel like I could talk to him if
needed.

3. What steps can be taken to improve the City Manager's performance?

I don't have any suggestions here.

Employee 2:

1. In what areas does the City Manager's performance meet your expectations?

Having worked in public sector for over 25 years, and in a City Managers Office for
seven, Dennis meets my employee expectations in areas of communications (e-mails to
employees), responsiveness to council concerns and directives, outreach to emplOyees
(quarterly meetings), information retention (great memory and/or pm-meeting
organization and briefing---both before the city council and on employee issues), and
attitude (warm and friendly; genuinely concerned about muni matters).

2. In what areas does the City Manager's performance exceed your expectations?

From my program perspective his understanding, preparation and advocacy for the city
council's intent as well as State and Federal political realities in my program area have
been consistent .... through litigation and continuing industry and state/federal legislative
pre-emptive attacks on municipal authority.

For either reasons of past experience in Billings, Montana or genuine interest and
comprehension of the significance' of. this multi-million dollar, revenue program, Dennis
has always been accessible and well prepared for questions and administrative decisions
that rose to the City Manager level. In addition, he prepares well for his annual
telecommunications project decisions, which are funded at significant levels. In the
process, he includes ISD Workplan coordination elements and the recommendations of
his Executive Managers.

City Manager Evaluation 1 July 2005
Employee Comments
