organization is managed. <br /> <br />Dennis's conduct during his interactions with the City Council is also noteworthy. I <br />watch the meetings and am always impressed by his composure and professionalism. <br />Two examples: <br /> <br /> Dennis was asked explicitly by the City Council to lend his expertise and <br /> perspective to council discussions. He does this honestly and forthrightly, despite <br /> knowing that it may elicit angry or indignant retorts from those whose positions <br /> or actions he may be challenging. His willingness to fulfill the Council's stated <br /> wishes and suffer the potential consequences is admirable. <br /> <br /> Dennis has a remarkable ability to remain composed and professional while being <br /> subjected to (often rudely delivered) criticism. Watch the tape of almost any City <br /> Council meeting and witness the behavior he routinely and gracefully rises <br /> above. <br /> <br /> In addition to the executive-level work Dennis does, he also sets a great example as a <br /> City employee who is not above it all. He is conscientious, punctual, respectful of others, <br /> and hard working. He assumes full responsibility for his own actions and those of his <br /> staff and frequently reiterates his five core values for good government, which he not <br /> only promotes, but seems to live by. <br /> <br /> Employee 18: <br /> <br /> I'm pleased to have been selected to provide input about Dennis Taylor's performance <br /> over the past year. As an employee that works closely with Dennis, I believe my <br /> interaction with him is more of a personal nature and as such the answers to the questions <br /> will reflect that. <br /> <br /> In what areas does the CM's performance meet your expectations? <br /> <br /> Dennis' responsibilities as City Manager are extremely broad-based: first and foremost, <br /> he must work with the mayor and council implementing their policies, procedures and <br /> goals; he serves as the leader of his executive team steering the city's work plans toward <br /> successful achievement of the council policies; he's the main cheerleader for all city <br /> employees motivating them to professionally devote their skills and dedication to the <br /> citizens of Eugene; he attends and participates in community workshops, neighborhood <br /> meetings, events, and celebrations; he meets, strategizes and negotiates with colleagues <br /> and community partners constantly striving to i'mprove the area's issues and problems for <br /> everyone; and, in his spare time, Dennis serves as an example to my immediate work <br /> group showing us what it's like to be a consummate professional who, at all times, <br /> demonstrates dedication, kindness, honesty, sincerity, humor and above all integrity. <br /> <br /> City Manager Evaluation 12 July 2005 <br /> Employee Comments <br /> <br /> <br />
